4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

so we need to take a picture on set date with a clock and all the eggs right?  What other stuff do I need to be aware of. So far sounds easy, but I think I need a few more incubators....

Bea,
On the set date you report what you set as well as pictures to confirm what you set. The only picture that I know of that needs a clock in it is for the first chick hatched after midnight. The main thing you will need is time to read and post to the thread. The closer we get to hatch day, the busier the thread gets. Last year it was nothing to be gone a day and be 100+ posts behind. LOL
Oh, and a few more incubators wouldn't hurt either.

OK now I got my bator's out again getting ready for a trial run setting all the eggs i get for the next three days. My DW thinks I've gone crazy hatching eggs in the Minnesota winter but i can't miss out on this after winning last year.
I haven't tried winter hatching yet either. I've done Thanksgiving and February but not when the eggs are freezing right out of the hen ! I'm going to try it! I'm just north of you BTW

Mine has been test running for 2 years !

Jim,

Keep up the great work. I'll be cheering for you for the rest of the year!!!

Thanks Darwin. I'm so pleased that you have found us. My crew will try to make you and your crew proud. (I sure hope you can sneak an incubator into your bathroom)

Well I was thinking about doing a winter hatch also, b/c techincally the pullets would be becoming a perfect laying age at the right time of year, unlike my wynadottes which just turned over 7 months & only 3 outta the 5 are laying so far, when usually they probably woulda laid a cpl months before now b/c we dont' use artificial light.

I only have a 40 egg incubator but I might be willing to put some GLW roo/RIR hen eggs in there, & some pure GLW eggs :) since the dottes sell pretty good, I refuse to eat the cockerals though LOL

I did this the last few years and it was fun! I think I had the runner up chick out after midnight last year. I am not sure if I will do it this year - waiting to see just what kind of winter it is shaping up to be here (upstate ny). Really hate brooding chicks in the house anymore! =)
