4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Gah! I giv up! I hav no eggs for the hatch a long! Only 1
Where are you at? If we ship Tomorrow morning first thing you could see them Monday but at the latest Tuesday in time to set. We have a few EE eggs and them some from eating egg flock we can spare. Eating egg flock has black copper marans hens, blrw hens, some ee hens and a bcm roo and ee roo. We did a $0.50/egg special for NYD hatchers. I have a box of duck eggs to ship tomorrow for a customer so let me know and i will pull and box a set for you too.

You don't need an actual candler. Just go into a dark room and shine a flashlight into the large end of the egg. A good egg will have a round air pocket that doesn't move in the large egg of the egg. A dislocated air cell will move around if you move the egg. A ruptured air cell may appear as multiple bubbles and will move all the way up through the egg if you turn it so the small end is up. Dislocated air cells can sometimes reattach and eggs have decent chances of developing. Eggs with ruptured air sacs don't have much of a chance..
Thanks, I'll check them after dark. Should I throw the ones with ruptured air cells, or give them a shot?

I just checked them. My flashlight isn't very good, but almost all of them have at least dislocated air cells, and at least 2 have ruptured air cells. Two I couldn't tell, so maybe they are ok.

They will have a few days to "rest" so instead of turning them while I wait, I am just going to leave them small side down in the carton. Maybe most will reattach.
I had planned on laying them on their side when incubating (I don't have a turner). Would I be better off leaving them in the carton, and prop up one side and turn them that way instead? Just thinking that would keep the air cell on top, so when the chick grows into it, it is in the right spot? Or am I over thinking this?

Thanks for all your help!
