4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

That is one of the cutest ducks I've ever seen. Makes it worth brooding the messy things.

I've got a couple duck eggs in my incubator too.

She is a Chocolate Bibbed Call female, hatched from a fellow BYC'er. Oh, and she is full grown. Her whole body fits in your hand. So adorable.

What kind of ducks, Julie? : )

A feather legged blue Cayuga, how interesting. I think I remember seeing a post about him. : ) I have Buff Orpingtons, Magpies, Runners, Pekins, a couple mixed ducks, and some others in my flock (what do you call a herd of ducks??). Who knows what the ducklings will look like. The sad part is I will probably be selling just about everything I hatch.
C'on you know you want to!

(< Make that a duckling).

I'm going to enable you....

If you didn't say "Awwww!!" ...then there is something seriously wrong with you and the only cure is a duck.

We are too, I put my answer in the form also, but now the form is gone. We are trying to get answers, most of the confusion is beyond our control.

I have some due to hatch on Friday and I'm still antsy! I like staggered hatches... More action going on, lol.

Quote: I wish I would have known better when my kids were growing up, I lived in the city. I envy you.
Quote: All of my OE's are black, I only got one that is blue with a little bit of cooper. I have a white EE that I'm hatching from she is under a 2nd gen OE
I guess we do have Christmas to look forward to while we're waiting for the hatch, don't we??
Broke here. I just want to see my family and spend time with them. (they are all into the major present thing, not me)

Now I have gone through the first 8 pages again, and I can not seem to find the answer...do we have to list the types and numbers of each type of bird on a spreadsheet somewhere? Or was I delusional when I thought I saw that rule?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
No the one who switched stuff up on us is

did just say that
Ok... I'm going to beg some advice off of all of you been-there-done-that folks... That's what I love about this site... So much knowledge!

I set my eggs at noon CST and it is now 7:30PM. My Hovabator had been holding steady for the previous 24 hours at 99.4-100.2. When I put the eggs in, the temp was 99.6 and my humidity was only 26%, so I added some water and put my eggs in... 45 of them. I knew the temp was going to drop when I put my eggs in, and I was reading earlier posts that said don't touch it for 24 hours, but I just got home and went to check, and the temp is only 93.9 after 7 1/2 hours. I know the low temp is less dangerous than too high of a temp, but it will also delay the development of the chicks... Should I attempt to adjust the temp up just a hair, or should I sit on my hands to keep myself from fiddling with it for a full 24 hours??
Don't touch, let it go for 24 hrs if it was 99.6 it should come back up. If not only adjust a little, and wait.
need some advice. My incubator was at 20 humidity before i put eggs in with no water, so i added some water to the one inner trough (hova bator) and my humidity went up to 87%! i emptied it of almost all water and it is now at 30%. How do i bring it up to a better level just add very small bits of water?
30% is good

18 eggs set for the NYD Hatchalong...

My incubator, a little red number that right now just has one tray in it (but can fit up to 3 turning racks). Temporary fan in place as I'm replacing the burned out fan that sits up above on a shelf with a computer fan. Inset shows the incubator with its "coat" in place. I have my incubator in the basement where it is a constant 65 degrees, so the coat helps the incubator maintain heat without working so hard. Love my cute little red incubator. :) Hatching tray is on the floor, heating element and fan at the top, along with thermostat along the right side. Photo 2 is a photo of my eggs set:

4 Olive Eggers (Blue Cuckoo OE (F1 Marans x Ameraucana) x Iowa Blue Rooster) - more additions to my layer flock
4 Bantam "Iowacanas" (Bantam Lavender Ameraucana x Iowa Blue - beginning of Bantam IBs - something about a non-blue chicken, named Iowa Blue, but lays blue eggs that tickles my fancy, lol.)
10 Iowa Blues - out of my favorite IB pair, very excited for those chicks!

Enter that in the incubator design, nice
BTW, if anyone was interested in my techno project I had mentioned in previous posts, you can check the graphs ONLINE at this link --> HEY! CLICK ME!

This graphs show one system hooked to 2 different home made cardboard box incubators. Only one has a humidity sensor in it but that will change once I get the other one in the mail. If my temp or humidity strays outside the safe zone that I set, I will get an emailed alert telling me what the problem is. If you guys think this is neato, let me know!

Some of the Sebbies and American Buffs soaking up the sun.

We converted the garden into a goose pen for the winter. You can see several of our raised beds, made out of old road signs that we got from a TXDOT job. Besides being very useful they make excellent decor. ; )

They look like they are in a movie set, and ready to start the show.
