4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Roscoe sealed his fate last night... He attacked my daughter. All she had to defend herself was the feed bucket and he went after her so hard, he put two holes in the feed bucket. That's it, he's gone... I'm not putting up with this kind of behavior!

My BIL has intervened to save his life, though... He has a friend who had a mean rooster who actually acted like a gaurd dog. Wouldn't let any one near his house. Then his daugther ran him over, so he's looking for another rooster, and actually wants one with a bad attitude! Roscoe's getting put in a crate tomorrow morning and taking a ride into town so my BIL can deliver him to his new home!

Sure hope I get a nice roo from the NYD hatch...
Aw, sorry you roo is being a bad boy! I bet you'll get several nice cockerels to replace yours from your hatch. : )

Gosh you guys, I check this thread about 15 times a day and everytime I see updates, I get the urge to go candle, hahaha. I must restrain myself to only candle once a night, I don't see how some of you can restrain yourself to candling only twice throughout incubation!

Last night when I candled, it seems that 2 of them passed away. Blood vessels shriveled up into nothing and the blood pooled up in a large ring around the small lifeless embryo. I always end up with a couple day 5-7 deaths with shipped eggs, but never my own eggs. I've always wondered why, does anyone else see this?
I think alot of times the "chalza" spelling anyone?? is frayed and half broken and they dont make it from that alone.... also just plain bacteria

here is the notes from the article I drop everything in....

NOTES: The yolk of an egg is held in place on each end by what is called Chalaza. These are delicate cords that keep the yolk centered in the egg. When you crack open an egg, you notice a white stringy thing on the yolk, this is the Chalaza. When eggs are shipped they encounter many things that are not favorable to their well being.

.

NO clue how it spiked that high, luckly enough, I have a food dehydrator ( no lamp or heating element) So I turned it down and it went back to below 100 within a min.

I candled, all seem fine.. a few hours ago checked agian, the ones I candled seem to be alive still. THANK GOODNESS..
I have to put my Double blue laced Barnevelders, EE, and Birchen Marans in lockdown tomorrow...
