Hi folks, we just got ourselves dug out from the blizzard yesterday. Lost power for 5 hours and on and off all night. I haven't had the guts to candle yet. If I had been using the genesis, it would be over for sure, but the Reptipro only got down to 85. Guess we'll see. I'll check on them tonight.

WOW I will certainly cross my fingers!!! keep us updated on candle!! will you be able to tell right away if they are ok or does it take several days?

kari, The internal temp of the eggs probably didn't get down to 85.........

Oh man, wish I could have ducks. I did hatch out some Welsh H's. Couldn't keep them, just had to, saw how cute those babies are! I would love tohave ducks wondering around! These that are being show are beautiful. Thank you for posting!

Can I share???? I just got some CALL DUCK EGGS!!!!! Yipee!!! from a BYC'er... who was happy to even share a BUNCH of 'extras'!!!

so, last night... I put 3 doz plus 1 eggs in the bator! all CALLS! theoretically 1/3 will be pure butterscotch, the others are mix...
so, I figure on 26 days from now I'll be bonding with a GAGGLE of DUCKS!!!
YIPEE!!!

any advice on hatching calls?
I have them in the lowest rack of my Dickie, in the turner...
I hear I start misting on day 4...
once a day...
and put on lockdown on day 23...
fill me in!!!
never had a duck before!

well I just pulled 8 more eggs! if the ones left make it all the way it will be a 50% hatch. had pulled infertals at day 7, only 1ccl maybe another just not sure yet. the others are EE, Ameraucana, welsummer & OE.

Ouch, but if you get that 50%, that will be good..and with Welsummers to boot! I like Welsummers!

Oooh, so sorry. Have to let you know, that this happened this past year with us. I took mine out to the car to sit in the sun. I had one bator that had the plug in..the other just had to sit in the seat, and it too got down into the 80's. When the power finally came on after being off for half of the day..serious..I candled that night. Didn't lose one of them, seems in the 80's is still comfortable for them. Especially if you are as far along as when everyone started.
Good luck, let us know, I know the worry! The Reptipro was the one I had the plug in for. You must not have been home to put it in the car/truck? Still, bet they are fine..

Sally! That is not an IV bag. I have a big home brew (beer making) setup in my garage and this is an extra piece from my filter buckets. I usually keep a bunch of spare bits clean and on hand. In this case I wanted to be sure I could add water without opening the incubator. Works great!
