4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

You might hear them cheeping or if you candled (not recommended) you might see the beak poking up in the air sac.
Thank you!!! I was wondering, because I know they are in lockdown, and candling now would be very naughty!!! So, everyone that is hearing the peeping can say that they have internal pips... I guess I don't have any yet...

I've had lots of eggs that I never heard cheeping or that I saw move, no idea till I saw the external pip.

WOW!! only three hatched, and five are pipped. out of 24. im kinda worried, but oh well.
i went back to sleep at seven and here at ten i wake up and it has SNOWED
coming down so hard you can hardly see anything, lol!

Quote: Only way I've drowned chicks in the past is when I did that on accident AND they pipped internally before I got the humidity down. If your Temps have been good, and you get it down, they should be fine :)

One of the chicks that pipped last night just cam out - a very healthy, noisy one (I hope she's a she!). And I hope that her noise spurs the others into action. I have another that pipped this morning and is half zipped already.

Has anyone ever feather sexed chicks successfully? I have eight ("don't count your chickens . . .") of these spoken for, but of course, my customers only want females. I was going to search youtube for feather sexing and do some research while I'm waiting for more action here. If anyone knows of a good site or pdf, please let me know!

Shelley, I have the same stuff in mine...I don't notice a smell at this point...I know a lot of people use it but I am not 100% sure about fumes and possible damage to the chicks..can you let me know what people tell you in case I miss the answer and if it is bad I will pull mine out.

I use that too.The smell was very strong at first.I thought the same thing. After its washed that smell goes away or it did on mine. :)
