4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

So we were looking into the bator, the one shell that is in there has something jelly like in the bottom.
The chick is out and no blood or anything around it.
Is this normal? If this is the yolk, it was not all absorbed. but it looks like skin, is it just the inner egg membrane?
Remember this is our first hatch, and we are learning, so sorry for the awkwardness of this question.

I'd like to win something for once, but in all honesty I don't care if I do or not. The only thing I want is for my four little seramas to hatch. I haven't checked on them in a bit, but I don't think they're even pipped.

My one egg that pipped this morning has a bigger hole now but no zipping. I wonder if it is waiting for midnight?

Well... I just finished my "ghetto" brooder!! Wrapped the guinea pig/rabbit cage in feed bags... Now all I need is for my eggs to START DOING SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!
Looking mighty fine 409!
Hmmm... No matter how many times I look into my bator, or how long I stare at them, nothing seems to change...

Just when you are ready to give up ... you'll look again and voila! Pip!
Raven..is that two pips I see in that cam??! Maybe there are more and we just can't see them? Yaay, you will be up a while watching, I just know it!
Yes it is! And now we have a bigger hole and a beak! But there haven't been any other external pips yet ... my Marans must be sleeping.

I've got a PIP!!!!
Yay! And that's gonna be a nice Treasure Chestabator!

Who's having pork and kraut tomorrow? Mine's cooking in crockpot. It's the first pork roast, from my own pigs, I'm making. YUM YUM it sure is stinking up the house

We have a homegrown ham in the oven as I type - a 50# one barely fit!
no kidding cluck, I was thinking the same thing about that cool looking chest!!
I gotta say when I saw the photo my first thought was , oh no, don't hurt the beautiful trunk.
on the flip side, if you use it a lot maybe making it into a brooder will be nice too, but maybe you coluld make a brooder that fits inside it, w/o harming the original trunk, just in case you ever want to switch it back to other uses??

Update - zero activity in my bator, it isn't looking good ppl. & Ron, I am now having that something to relax -- Frangelica an entire shot, I will loose all ability to type soon...unless the chaser cup of coffee works...

Ok here is me panicing softly about my poss. entry into worst hatch rate, not the contest any of us want to enter...

Quick question - exactly when is a chick considered hatched? When it is officially freed from all of it's shell? When it gets mostly out? Just want to make sure I don't report prematurely! LOL My first pip still only has a hole and no zip so ... it will probably still be a while. She has 4.5 hrs until midnight and at the rate it's been moving it'll take at least that long!

PS I'm covered in paint from painting my brooder cabinet!
