4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

I fixed my humidity. I also found out that 3 out of 4 eggs are from my Black Australorp, so they're half RIR. The other one is pure RIR. I got a good look at my seramas and float tested one of them. The one I tested was wiggling the egg in the water, so I at least have one still alive. The other three I can't tell, since I didn't test. There's still a lot of room in all but one of my seramas, so I don't think they're ready to hatch yet. My three pipped chicks are working on getting out now that they aren't stuck.

So far:
5/5 homegrown mutts
1/7 lav am with 1 zipping now
2/10 rc RIR with 2 pipped but not progressing ( think they'll need an assist later tonight)
0/1 EE
9/16 BA and BR

All but the mutts were shipped eggs.

Can anyone explain how this happened?

I set 1 batch 2 days before the other. 1 was set a day before the official set day and one was set a day after the official set date (I found more eggs, hahaha) The eggs that were set the day before, look fairly behind in development with a lot of space left, through they are still moving so I know at least a couple are alive. Obviously they are not hatching and they are not ready to hatch. The eggs that I set a day after (2 days after the first batch) are hatching right now on time. If it was low temperatures causing the first batch to hatch late, then why is the second batch right on time? This doesn't make sence to me so I was hoping that someone could explain.

Got another 10 going into the hatcher tomorrow. Hope the OEs make it out by then! LOL

Both sitting there absorbing yolk, quite content with their pips. 2 other eggs - nothing from them yet. Will give them more time.

update 7:31 pm E. set 23, locked down 22 of which at least 2 had movement at lockdown

21 maran over maran, & orp & Ameraucana
1 muttxmutt

Zero activity of any type (no sounds or movements)

humidity impossible to maintain (I've opened it 2x since lockdown to boost it from below 30% w/ all sorts of extra water, container of water, & wet washcloth ) rigth now it is 45% = (

I'm not sure anything is alive in there, last night's wet washcloth looks bone dry now!! If they are alive I can't see how they will hatch w/o shrink wrap issues -- should I open it AGAIN and add more water, a fresh wet cloth?? candle an egg? or just keep waiting?

Lol my chicks are tagteaming me. Just as I think they're fluffed enough to sneak out, another pip happens and I dare not open the incubtor.

Pip number 3 is happening! I turned the incubator so its right next to the window closest to the webcam.

Do you have vents on your hatcher that you can close up? Something I've done in desperate situations is to get some warm water in a spray bottle. Open the hatcher just enough (1/2 inch) for you to put the spray nozzle in there and mist everything inside. If you have a jet setting on your sprayer, spray your washcloth some too.
