4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Ooo yours is so close Gabrielle! I'm glued to the computer rooting for him/her.

On a related note, your chicks are nice and perky and awake. I think mine are defective, they sleep alot lol.

The eco looks so big, isn't it? It looks like it would hold 18 eggs, no?
Hello folks, I have a question. What is the best shavings or pellets to use for new chicks ? (For the floor)My brother uses aspen. I have used pine. I have always heard not cedar because of the aromatics are bad for the respiratory system in chickens? What do you guys use? Thanks mrs
I just use pine, then I put paper towel over that because the chicks seem to be able to move around better on it, then after about a week or so, it's pretty dirty, I take it away, and they have fresh pine underneath. They don't seem tempted at that point to try and eat it either. a bit if pine always finds it's way to the surface of the paper towel but never any trouble :)

BTW, I had fallen too far behind, and am now scanning through the past pages and I have to say all the chicks, especially the tray o chicks (MCF) and foothillsfiber's broody pictures are awesome and so are everyone elses!

LOL, I just realized I was watching a rerun of the hatch Gabrielle, LOL

My slowpoke finally hatched. Now I'm waiting on the 4th Ameraucana X which is pipped, and still no movement in the 4 remaining Marans. Slowpoke came out quite wet so I sure hope the others didn't drown. I'm afraid to open it and move anyone out for fear of mummifying the others.

I am using aspen, because I have them in the same room as my Sugar Gliders, and the Sugar Gliders can't be around pine... the pine oil is toxic to them. :)

hey Jessiey, I've been wondering about you..how are your eggs doing..anything? I may have missed a post! I hope you have some pips by now?

Ok I topped up the water in the sponge wicked container, and switched the dry cloth for wet, also turned off the fan for awhile (no peeps or pecks or anything).

humidity is up to 68% for the moment but likely will fall into the 50%s over the next hr or two

I'm plugging 1 of 2 vents and turning fan back on, then I'm going to watch a movie or something (I should have laid in some choc. in case of hatch failure, will do in future).

Here is hoping all the not yet hatched eggs in this hatchalong pip by midnight
