4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

hey Jessiey, I've been wondering about you..how are your eggs doing..anything? I may have missed a post! I hope you have some pips by now?
I have two external pips, and one internal.... and lots of little chirps... but no chicks quite yet... I've been sitting watching through the window most of the day. :D

I think he is adorable but then I like snakes and lizards.

lol..I have a couple of sons that like them too. We've had bearded dragons and other types through the years. Maybe that's why this little guy caught my eye. Me personally, no thanks on lizards. Or Snakes! I have a daughter that used to hatch the Gecho's .. spelling..they aren't too bad. Funny, I remember her incubator years ago, and never thought I would be hatching chicks..and quail..and turkey..and ducks..the three latter being only once just to know how to. Had good luck with hatching the turkeys and duck. I only had two turkey eggs..those hatched..had like 8 duck eggs, got 6. Soo cute.
Harlequin Welsh duck babies.

Oh good! Things are starting. Shouldn't be too much longer. Waiting to hear of a baby by tonight. :)

Ok I topped up the water in the sponge wicked container, and switched the dry cloth for wet, also turned off the fan for awhile (no peeps or pecks or anything).

humidity is up to 68% for the moment but likely will fall into the 50%s over the next hr or two

I'm plugging 1 of 2 vents and turning fan back on, then I'm going to watch a movie or something (I should have laid in some choc. in case of hatch failure, will do in future).

Here is hoping all the not yet hatched eggs in this hatchalong pip by midnight

I can't seem to get my humidity up past 53, but it's a still air, so I'm not going to worry to much for this first day in lock down. May try something different tomorrow to get it up. I usually don't use plugs at all, but I did put one in this time to try and get it up. I just have to wonder about this read out I have. Not sure it's right.

Oh gosh, I hope they start pipping, did you set on time? Maybe your bator was running on the cool side??

When I woke up this morning, there were no pips... then someone was all "Go check!" and I did, and it was like, half an hour later from when I woke up... and there was one pip...

and my humidity got up to 70, so I used that as an excuse to candle.. and noticed that two were internally pipped.... got a cool pic of that....

Then a few hours later, the first one that pipped had it's little nose hole right up to the hole...

and is just chilling.... and the smallest egg I have (half silkie) has pipped, but it's a TINY hole, and I can't seem to get a good pic of that one through the glass of the bator. :)

I was having that trouble too (humidity in the house is like, 15%) and I put a damp paper towel in the bator, and it's helping tons. :)
