4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Well, unfortunately the remaining eggs look like day 17 or 18 quitters. I opened them all and nothing viable was left. So sad, but at least I got 4 healthy babies! I really wasn't expecting super awesome results considering the source. It's not like grocery stores are careful about shipping. That, along with the low temps and the age by the time they get to the store, and I'm amazed I got 4!!! I originally set 11.

Here's some pics of them all fuffed up.

So cute! Nice thing about grocery store eggs, is that you know they will be good layers!

OK aside from the first chick there seems to be nothing going on with the remaining 19 eggs..absolutely nothing...I sure hope I am not going to end up with a lone chick...I don't think they even sell chicks at the feed store in January so I don't know if I'd be able to get him a buddy...keep your fingers crossed everyone!!!
Oh noes!

Nope, her skin is pale. but my chicks are all random... haha. :)

it's a little hard to catch on the camera, but she's a reddish brown and black... it seems she has black skin on her face, but not all over. :hmm

Ok, fingers crossed that you have more coming!

I have one more pip, and one more that knocks back... :D it's looking like 5 for me.. but with possibility of 2 more if they are just slow. :)

SO I investigated a bit further... turns out I was right on my instinct that the bator's humidity was too low.... the first little pip ended up shrink-wrapped. :( I'm working on slowly assisting since it's still chirping, but it had pipped 24 hours ago. :/
So not what you want to see..... :/
I'm behind on posts ... update?
SO CUTE!!! Love that feeder, mine is too big for the chicks, and it's only the larger round one. They're so pretty, those chicks!
Thanks. I saw some like it on here somewhere and went looking for them. My husband calls them spaceship feeders. Was also hoping to find the metal bottoms that thread onto glass quart jars but couldn't. Might have to see about buying some online somewhere. Love those too. Hate the plastic crappy ones.
I just read that a nurse uses her stethoscope to listen for their chicks chirping in the bator and if she needs to pull and candle!! NOW WHY didn't I think of this???? I would look so much better with a stethoscope than my ear shoved against that bator, yet alone being a tad more comfortable!! LOL
That is a brilliant idea! I even have one!
I cannot be the only one who can't find the "How many eggs hatched" contest. I have looked everywhere.
Are we supposed to report how many of our eggs hatched on a spreadsheet somewhere ... and when is the deadline for doing that?

oh Lookey !! HOW Gorgeous are they!! little Cream Sickles! spelling? LOL

This is just my luck. The fan in my room was turned off last night because it was too cool to have it on. Turns out that was the only thing between me and a massive temp spike.

I lost the three chicks that hatched and the six eggs I had left, 2 BA/RIRs and 4 serama. Nothing is moving in the eggs at all. I even float tested them again and got nothing. Maybe I just wasn't meant to have seramas?
