4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

There are several of us here in TN w/ hatching problems which I really do thing have some to do w/ the repeated massive air pressure changes, it has been really extream, not just the day the SE had 30 tornadoes but repeatedly for the past 14 days, during which I know we've had over 3 days w/ winds 60-80 mph, and a combined total of over 14 inches of rain, also ice storms, hail, and today freezing fog. I figure if a stormfront can cause a sinus headach, it can cause other things, like maybe issues w/ keeping incubators working properly!
I'm actually kinda curious now if there's ever been a study on pressure affecting egg development. Did anyone in the area have broodies hatching the same time?
Thank you. It really does make it better for me knowing people understand and are keeping their fingers crossed for me and my little ones.
You're welcome!
I know, this is getting so sad! However, some people set 3-4 days late, so there should be some happy stories mixed in??!!
I hope soooo!

I set a lil late and so far got one good pip with lots of chirping and one small pip. Looks like the small pip is well beloe the air sac. Does that mean a bad thing?

How long from first pip till hatch. One has been chirping for 7 hours now but dont see anything. And another has pipped shell. Any advice will help. Tmp at 100 and humidity is 70 best i could get it but does drop to 68-65 at times

Thank u and no sooneer i posted tht i went back and checked and u have a large external pip and still a small pip pn another i know my temp is good but i cant seem to get the humidity higher

Looks to me like your humidty level is fine. I just try to keep mine above 65%.

Funny, I'm on my phone talking to a bunch of chicken addicts on byc, and the ad pops up for 'addiction rehab'
But I don't wanna have rehab, I like my crazy addiction >.<

Talking about incubators, is anyone using the Brinsea octagon advance 40, the one with the cooling cycle each day? If so, do you think it helps?

For the price I would be very close to a Sportsman but I am only allowed 6 chickens and live in the City. It would be very hard for me to figure out what to do with hundreds of little chicks! At the same time, I want to give the eggs I incubate the best chance possible.

By the way, Penedesenca eggs kick my butt all over the place!

Do you hatch them like marans? Any other tips on them?

Just lost the little one I thought was so strong... And one started to really slow down its breathing so I took it into the steamed up bathroom to try to,give it more room to breath, but it was too late... I put it back in the incubator because I could still feel the faintest heartbeat, but I can't get it to breathe.... So now I've lost 7, going on 8... I hate this part...

I have to go back to work tomorrow, so I REALLY need to sleep, but I don't want to leave them... There are still 7 chicks in the bator, struggling to hold on... Not that it makes a difference if I help them.... They're dying anyway.
