4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

So you guys don't all measure in inches?

We measure in CM here.
48 inches of snow?!
th.gif

30-50 cm is common for a snow storm here. The winter before last we had one with 75+ cm in one drop.
Schools don't close for any less than 20 unless the roads are full of black ice.
I remember school closing once for a temp that would freeze skin in 15 minutes. That was the coldest day I ever recall. Something like -40 with a wind chill of -50.
OK, now from those of us South of the Mason-Dixon, hush your mouth. We don't allow such language down here.

I can not even imagine living somewhere with those kinds of temps. We have been below freezing (30 F) at night for the last few days and 60's for highs, and we are all complaining.

It's 10 here right now. So cold. No matter where you live in this world, 10 is cold. :p

Our high today is 32.

We built four cookie tin water heaters last night. Our water was so frozen we couldn't just break it out.

At least it's sunny. :p

Luckily we haven't had any freezing just yet, and although I'm not really crazy for REALLY cold weather, I do like what it's doing for the deer hunting. The deer always move good when it's chilly.

I do love being able to gather around a good fire in the evenings too. Y'all just keep all the freezing temps up there and we're good.

I lived in Shreveport for 11 years. Y'all do NOT handle freezing well, especially since it doesn't snow; it ices. I remember 6 inches of ice on the roads one year. It wasn't any fun at all.

Quote: That is when your puppy looks at you playful, crouches down, then runs at you full force and bumps into you, oh the fun. I learned pretty quickly that it wasn't bad play, I just turn sideways a little like a linebacker and wait for the hit. It's funny. As she gets bigger, the more I have to remind myself that she is still a baby. I have to remind the BF all the time, she is bigger then our adult inside dogs. AWWWWW I just had a huge hawk in the yard. Zoe got to see it on lead when I spooked it out of the tree and it flew away, She followed until after numerous good girls......I said BAD DOG
oops.gif
I meant to say, bad bird, get it. She stopped looking at it

I'm on the outlook for it and have her in the spot were we saw it. Maybe it won't come back.

Very true, lol. I think back in '93 or '94 we had LOADS of ice, lots of power lines down all over the northern part of our state. I live in the extreme NE, it was horrible here. No power for over a week. We had to use the wood-burning stove to cook with. The roads were very unsafe. Lots of hydroplaning. I do not want to go through THAT again.

Yeah I remember those days! In good ol South Dakota, there are no trees unless a human planted em, so there is constant wind. Those ski masks that everyone everywhere else wears to rob gas stations? Yeah we wore them so we didn't lose feeling in our faces while waiting for the bus. -50 to -60 windchill wasn't uncommon in deep winter. I never showered in the mornings because I didn't want my hair to freeze either. And you have never lived until you get a blizzard every week that dumps one to two feet of snow like clockwork.

Boy, I'll never miss that place! Lol. I hated measuring snowfall in feet, and I love the fact that everything closes down over two inches of snow up here in high desert country. I bet I couldn't even keep chickens there *gasp* the horror!

WE don't measure in feet at all. Just CM for snow and MM for rain.

I have book marked the calculator for C to F converter. I'm always trying to explain how hot or cold it is. :p +30 is unbearable to me. That is 86 to you.

Oh yes. The hair freezing.. Yep.. Recall that very well. I still showered anyway in the morning, but it was not fun having stiff hair

I know the icy hair thing WELL!!! I used to walk to school so my friends always thought it was funny to lift up a CHUNK of my waist length hair & see how far out from my head it would stick.
