This is the strangest thing (at least to my novice mind). I STILL have eggs pipping...Is it unusual to have a close to five day staggered hatch?

It depends on the breed and if you had cold spots in the Bator. Marans can take up to 25 days to hatch! Smaller eggs often hatch sooner. You could have some hatch on day 20 and then Marns on day 25.

You should seriously check the temps and install a fan kit(yes, they sell those saw one on Strombergs for something like $35.00) if you are using a still air. You can turn that fan off during hatch if you want to also if you are worried about the fan causing shrink wrap.

Dear Hatchers and Non Hatchers,
I just wanted to THANK all of you for making the 4th Annual NYD a success. As you probably know, this was the first time any of my team or I led a hatch and then to lead one of this size was overwhelming.
I found as we were getting closer to the hatch date, it was more difficult to remain caught up. There was frustration felt by some of you that my team and I were not answering questions posted in the thread. It had been requested numerous time to PM with questions but I fear those requests were also lost in the thread.
My team had everything set up and ready to roll on Dec 10. At this time, there were requests from higher ups to change stuff. This caused a ton of stress for my team. There were many times that some of us were ready to throw in the towel.
Each of us on my team have had personal issues pop up. As a result, it became more difficult to devote the time needed to the 4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long. Reading criticism of our running of the hatch added to our personal burdens. I value constructive criticism, especially when solutions/offers to help are given.
I truly value all of you and am glad that you all participated. Please bear with us as we wrap up the contests. At that time I will have made my final decision as to if I will host another hatch or not. After the events of Dec 10, I told higher ups that I would not host another, but decisions can be changed. I do know some of my team will not be continuing for another hatch. I will make my decision soon enough to be able to give somebody else plenty of time to get things organized.
Thank you all for making this a great SUCCESS!

I think you guys did/are doing a great job!!!

I actually am a little embearassed about this as I clearly inadvertantly broke the rule of not opening the incubator...but...since today is five days after the hatch began I decided to do the water test. I took an egg out and put it in the water...I couldn't tell for the life of me with any certainty if there was bobbing or not. I decided I should come back to egg #1 and went on and grabbed egg #2.

Not wanting to allow my nerves to get the best of me I nonchalantly grabbed the 2nd egg...I looked at it for a second, kind of shook it in my hand (not too hard but just enough to sort of gauge the weight I guess for no reason in particular) and knowing nothing of how it should feel I went on to put it up next to my ear...

A piercing Chirp rang into my ear!!!- I swear I think I almost tossed the egg into the air as I was taken back with fright!!!

Another lesson (which I guess I probably will never learn but nonetheless offer as advice to those of you with the normal amount of self control...PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE AND DON"T GIVE UP ON THE EGGS>>>ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE A HOLE THE SIZE OF A PENNY ON THE BOTTOM SIDE!!!!
