I think the ones we get to vote on are over now. Waiting for the BYC ones to be Judged now.

ME? I thought everyone was mad at me for posting so much! Really??? Thats wow really? I have smacked my own hands and have now refrained from posting!
It's wonderful how you answered everyone and have been so helpful during the hatch. Congrats. Please post away, your posts (even if there were 10 million) have always been answering someone or commenting on something or giving some information to new hatchers, not just posting to have a post.

And i saw the cute duckie pics somewhere in there, but think new pics are needed. My ducks aren't laying so no ducklings here for awhile and I'm going through duckling withdrawal. It's amazing how fast they grow isn't it? My littlest one is about 5-6 weeks old, and I can't even remember her being little. I think she only was for like 4 days, lol.

X's 3! I've had them like that, just gave very small amounts of the electrolytes for a day, and often times, they come around. When a chick is helped out, you see this type of thing often. Just takes a while for them to get strong.

And some winners have been announced Contragts to you all. Sally, I think you are still up for one more..I have a guess that I know what it is, between two picks that is! You've been great..and I also liked the updates ron!!

Is there somewhere where the total number of eggs set and total number of chicks hatched is posted? I'd love to see it.

This was a stressful hatch. I collected my eggs, but my whole family got sick right around set time, so I hadn't had my incubator running long enough to put the eggs in on set day. I got them in on the 15th of Dec. I can't remember if I put 40 or 42 eggs in the incubator. Anyway, I ran the incubator for three days with no issues before I put the eggs in. I put the eggs in on a Saturday and the incubator was fine until I got up the next Monday morning and the temp was 110.

I figured all the eggs were done for at that point. It was fine when I went to bed, and then when I got up it had spiked. First time that incubator has ever spiked before. I almost threw in the towel, but I decided to keep going and see what happens. I candled on days 8 and 12. I threw out several eggs that were clear. It appeared that everything was going ok, but I was still skeptical. Then on day 20... I had peeping. I was excited! It took them right at 24 hours to pip after the peeps. I had a couple start hatching, and then it was a hatching frenzy. After the majority of them hatched I very quickly took them out of the incubator and put them in the brooder, but there were several eggs left. (I know, I know, keep it closed. The humidity never dropped below 70%)

I got 25 chicks that all seemed to hatch really close together, then another 5 that just lagged on and on. The 5 that lagged never really thrived and I didn't have much hope for them. Out of the 5 that lagged, one died really close to hatching, two more died this morning, one is still not doing well, another has an umbilical hernia. I did the band-aid thing, but I don't think he will make it. The two not doing well are still in the incubator.

There were 4 that were turned the wrong way in the eggs and died. I had my very first birth defect in the past 4 years I've hatched eggs. It was a chick that was fully formed, but didn't have a face. It was moving when I opened the egg, but once I got the egg opened it had no way of breathing. I culled it asap.

I'm shocked that I had so many healthy, vigorous chicks with that temp spike. I'm glad I didn't give up on them! Thanks Hatch-a-Long for motivating me to pull out the incubator!

As soon as I get reporting I'll post numbers.
I didn't even like the last couple that Jordan wrote. Ah well, it has been a few years since I have read that series, so your post (and a friend of mine's excitement about the last book coming out) has prompted me to read them again.

The last two books that I read, I just read the book without reading the whole series first... maybe I will like them better if I re-read everything. (And since I like the first books better anyway...

I haven't read anyhing by David Gerrold.
Well, don't start now, he ended on a cliffhanger and then has not done the next book for 20 years. He even took money to put names in it ...12 years ago when it was going to be done " any day now"

We are sending out a note to people to put in their egg numbers ( went tonight or tomorrow night, not sure) then we will give them a few days on that. Then we will have best, worst etc. A lot of people have not reported yet, so we will see what happens.

ack, I missed a multi quote. I wanted to say on the contests, There were different strokes for different folks. We tried to keep all the random posts on different threads, since this one was massive already. Just pick the ones that are fun for you, and leave the rest. I didn't watch the random post ones, I could not keep up either ! The points games were a lot of fun for those who played them, crazypetlady shenanagans were madness ! But there should have been a lot of slow (er) calm contests for other folks that just wanted to do a egg, design, or make a guess. If we do it again I think there is room for both types of contest, just have fair warning on the mad ones ! :D.

I think who does what contests needs to be more clear so people know who to answer questions of since I don't think the BYC contests people followed the whole thread. My vision is to have sponsored contests , CPL shananagans, and other contests seperate so everyone knows what is what.

On a personal note, I tried to give my new chicks to a broody that had not been broody long last night and she was not fooled. But she is inside now so I will try again in a few days.
She is giving me stick eye about these loud babies that are annoying her! WHO IS THE MOTHER ALLOWING THEN TO DO THAT she says.
