we have quite a few who check in daily and help newbes with hatching and we have some younger gals on there that we are also trying to help and get better set up with their homemade bators and incubating tecniques..... so we want to keep it alive.... plus its sweet to always have someone there you know when you need help with anything! love those gals and guys!! https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/704328/diary-notes-air-cell-detatched-shipped-eggs

It looks great!

Thank you so much for keeping it up. When someone asks an incubation question, I quickly answer them and then refer them to the link in my Signature!

I use plastic egg trays when I hatch more than 10. I incubate with the big end up and then position them in the tray tilted with the big part of the air cell up. Like this:

I ended up getting a used Sportsman off of Craigslist so the trays in the coolerbator didn't last too long. They are now used just for hatching. I just move the trays from the Sportsman to the coolers when lockdown time arrives.

I put in red die to help see the water level. I have switched to blue now--Red is too foreboding and Grim....

I FIGURED OUT my Fermenting Feed issue!!

DOLP!! DO NOT USE a plastic lid on your bucket!!

IT NEEDS AIR!!! so either drill holes in the top of the lid or just keep a towl over the bucket!!!

http://naturalchickenkeeping.blogspot.com/p/fermented-feed.html THIS IS an easy instructional pictorial site
  • 2 days worth of feed
  • cover with water
  • 1/4 cup unpasteurized apple cider vinegar with "Mother" (more for larger amounts of feed)
  • Mix well
  • Cover loosely with an old towel or drill holes in lid
  • let sit for 24 - 48 hours (stirring twice daily) before feeding
