4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Okay so I have these cats that keep coming in my yard, today they decided to come in when Zoe was out, first of all the big lug didn't notice the cat until we came right up to it by the coop, other one ran. Well the other bobtail female ran up a tree, all 80 + lbs of Zoe tries to climb tree. Cat just sits there and hisses, tries to scratch her eyes out, then the cat tries another tactic, it tried to pee on us. I gave up for a min. cat comes down, doesn't run, just stands there looking at Zoe like, "BRING IT ON DOG" It let me pet it and I left. Now my big dumb LGD is bonding with that cat. Probably trying to led her into a false sense of security, then it will eat my chicks
Every cat is different. None of mine bother the chicks at all. Though none of them like my LGD :p

You can try grating up some fresh orange peel and spreading it around your coop - cats don't like citrus.

I am having a heck of a time finding hatching eggs that will be available for a shipdate that will get them in my bator by the 10th. The majority of the breeds I want, and the places I want to get them from, are not laying dependably this time of year. Either that or the location does not want to ship eggs in this weather (and judging by where some are located I can understand this, they'd be a frozen mess). Sooo I might not be able to join after all. I still have four people to contact so...we'll see.

PM me. I have some pure & some mixes laying, but not a lot of them.

Quote: That's worth a try, but then my cat won't catch mice out there.

I'm in Ohio are we are in a warming trend this week in the 50's and on the 7th when they are supposed to get out its supposed to be 39* eggs should be fine. What are you looking for? Try the BST a lot of folks are offering NYDH eggs. Worth a try.

I soak mine overnight in hot water & bleach with a little dishsoap added in & then rinse really well.
I do the same thing, except I only soak it for a couple of hours.

Part of my reason for getting the genesis is so that I can have a clean incubator and a dirty one. Embryos will develop for the first 18 days in the genesis and then I'll move them to the hova bator 1602N for hatching so that the genesis stays clean. This would also give me the abilty for more sucessful stargard hatches.

My Hova-bator came today!! I'm so excited!! It's going to be hard to wait until the 11th to set eggs. Of course I have to wait for my eggs to get here too, but I kow I'll be really tempted to set a few of my own! I'll try to satisfy myself by setting it up and playing with it to get the temp and humidity right and maintained. This is my first time with an incubator, so I have a lot of learning to do!!

I am a hat wearer and love it
The tape is so you don't lose heat, also put your thermometer on top of the eggs. I'm told you are trying again. The project looks great.
How do you do that? Would we actually lay the thermometer right on top of the eggs, horizontally?

Thanks!
