4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

How do you do that? Would we actually lay the thermometer right on top of the eggs, horizontally?

Thanks!

Yes, the thermometer goes on top of the eggs horizonally, it's literally laying on top of them. It's the most accurate place to measure temperature because that is were the embryos form, the top of the egg.

Ok i've been gathering my pekin eggs to set the 4th.Not sure how they will go,last time i tried hatching only 3 out of 15 made it to lockdown.None of them hatched but we will see.I have only gotten 3 chicken eggs in 2 days out of 21 hens.Im about ready to sell them and put that money toward me some ducks in spring. They costing me to much money in feed to not get nothing in turn. I'm so angry i thought they were supposed to lay the most in their first year. Any way Im gonna make a few phone calls tomorrow to see if i can find some local eggs fairly cheep.

My Hova-bator came today!! I'm so excited!! It's going to be hard to wait until the 11th to set eggs. Of course I have to wait for my eggs to get here too, but I kow I'll be really tempted to set a few of my own! I'll try to satisfy myself by setting it up and playing with it to get the temp and humidity right and maintained. This is my first time with an incubator, so I have a lot of learning to do!!

Quote: Yeah right on top of the eggs, like cochin1088 said. I have to go back and edit "told to glad" spell check only fixes misspelled words not sentence written wrong.

I have 19 eggs so far, 7 Button Quail, 3 or 4 Duck eggs, and the rest are from the chickens, who are all together right now. I plan to collect eggs up until Tuesday morning, then set my first batch of eggs. Then I'll save up eggs until the NYD hatch! Woopie!

quick question for everyone I have some lavendar orpington eggs on day 14 two of them have some really strange air cells they have large dips in them. Ive been using the dry method humidity has been in the 30s. I also had some barred rock eggs in there the air cells are fine on them. I just moved them to my still air for lock down the chicks seem to be developing fine will this keep them from hatching? I tried to get a picture but I couldnt get one good enough to show the dip in the air cell

I've had this happen too. Some have hatched for me and some have not. The chicks that have hatched seem to be a little smaller than their counterparts.

Are the lav orps shipped? When Jim shipped some RIR eggs to me a few of the air cells ended up all over the place and as they developed and the air cells healed they looked all wonky with dips in them. Out of six eggs 4 hatched and all 4 of them had weird looking air cells.
