4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

I'm stumped, No none of that, I have one cockerel and 8 hens and 11, 10 week old chicks. They are in a coop that has 64 sq ft inside and a run that is over 300 sq ft and they free range. No one had anything wrong with them, I didn't find a dead mouse either. No one is acting sick. I wish some was then I could narrow it down.
Hmmmm puzzling. what'd the blood look like? sprays of it or puddles?

These are pictures of my eggs to show what i mean by porous, maybe no one knows:idunno
It is most evident in my dorking eggs (poster) and my icelandic's which have the lightest coloured shells. My bator will be full by tomo but I don't want to put in bad eggs. Should i put them im anyways.

Lack of Calcium uptake by the hen. If she has free choice oyster shells/other source of calcium, dous she get much natural light. If not, supplement with Vitamin D.

You can hatch the eggs, but you will need to watch the moisture loss. I've heard of some painting clear strips with clear finger nail polish to prevent moisture loss just like some people sand strips on dark Marans eggs then dip in an iodine solution to promote moisture loss.

Why do your eggs look upside down , its sapose to be Fat end up right ?

You can try to hatch pourous eggs , especally if you dont have the luxery of hens laying all the time so you can pick and choose perfect eggs to set, they are more vunberble to bactiria , humidity and temp issues but I have had some hatch ok . If they are from your hens I suggest getting them some calcium to eat like clean dried and crushed egg shells ect so they can pick and choose how much to eat. Im sure anothr expert wll have an idea.
These ones are pre-incubator, when they go in the incubator they will be fat end up, i didn't know if it made a difference now...

Yeah. my hens are on layers feed that has calcium and have free range to oyster shells in there pens, i do see them eating it. So it is strange

They have a window in thier pen and when it is decent weather in the barn all the doors get open. but they are not in direct path of that sunlight. hmm, maybe i will try and do one of the eggs with clear nail polish as a trail..

Thanks everyone I appreciate it!!!!!!!!!

Here is my water bucket w/heater...

I have a heat lamp in the coop, so that is why eberything is red...

This is the heater. I pulled it out of the bucket to get a picture...

It was extrememly easy to make. I took a 5 gallon bucket and drilled 4 holes in the bottom. The only tricky part is you need a very rare and expensive drill bit for the size that the nipples require. I ordered the nipples from Coops & More. WAY cheaper than any other place I found them. Their website has a video showing how to install them. Then I hung the bucket and put the heater in... Pretty simple actually.

My test hatch is over and my bator is cleaned out and airing out while I wait for when I get to load it up for the NYD hatchalong,
3of 6 serama egggs hatched

Editing because my names weren't entirely Christmassy:

Alpine (hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps) it probably has a real name but that's what I call it.

Amaretto

Snickerdoodle (not Christmassy to most people but I only make them at Christmas so they are Christmassy to me)

Mistletoe
