4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Ummm, I believe the BYC by-laws require you to set any and ALL eggs with ANY possibility of viability. At least, this is how the PA Thread rolls.

I thought the PA thread said you had to find any and all eggs with in a 365 mile radius and set every single one of them (as long as you hadn't given/sold them to another Pennsylvanian)?

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I'm sure once I see my shiny new Brinsea, I'll be right back into the enthusiasm of incubating again. My hubby is insisting I unwrap the present early so I can use it in this Hatchalong. He's too good to me. :)

Hope everyone has their chicken eggs ready to set tomorrow at noon (your own time). Review the first post for requirements when you set (pictures and such).

Yay! One more day and four more days for Coturnix Quail to be set!

Can I guess again on the number of eggs set??? More people keep signing up, so I obviously was premature in guessing, haha
That's good because I think I guessed too high!

But then again, I may be thinking small.........

I'm freezing my butt off. I have checked on the big kids (7 week old chicks) in their unheated coop at least a dozen times (probably more like 20) in the last few hours and I have NO idea what a cold chick looks or acts like. They're perched on the roost together and sort of act perturbed that I'm back again but they still just sit there...they're not shivering like humans do but they're looking pretty blah and fluffy...not comfy and warm and relaxed like they usually look. I hate this weather!! I never used to mind the cold until I had chickens out there. Not being a chicken stinks because it would help if I knew if they were comfortable or not.

I can't even sleep because I'm scared to death I'll wake up to frozen feather bodies.

...maybe I should take the heat lamp back out there.

If they're not really young, and they've been outside, I'm quite sure they'll be ok. As long as it isn't drafty in there!

I have 3 ziplock sandwich bags (double bagged) full of water... Not sure what that would equal in volume. I checked it before I went to bed last night and the temp was 102.5. I'd say it had sat that way for 2-3 hours, so I turned it down another 1/2 turn... Haven't gotten down there yet to see what my temp is this morning...
I do too, and again, it got too warm last night (I guess because I'm using this room in the day with the door open, but the room gets warm at night with the door closed, so I better not close the door anymore. I think it's the only room in the house with insulated windows, and having a computer on in here as well as the incubator is enough to heat it up! But yah, that's the best way to tell how warm your eggs really are!
