Still waiting for my mystery eggs to show up...

Yep noon, and I can't wait! Have had the homemade 'bator running for two weeks and I'm pretty sure it's stable enough not to cause me to check it during the night :)

Only question is if my head hen let anyone else mate with her, otherwise fertility is in question a little. Which is why I won't crack any to see! My other hen has finally stopped laying to finish molting, poor thing, so I only have a few of hers and they're at least 3 weeks old. They're going in the 'bator anyway!

I still can't wait, and I've been so focused on waiting to set that Christmas is sneaking up SO fast!

And I'm so jealous of all you in the states swapping eggs, we need to get a network set up in Canada

I'm freezing my butt off. I have checked on the big kids (7 week old chicks) in their unheated coop at least a dozen times (probably more like 20) in the last few hours and I have NO idea what a cold chick looks or acts like. They're perched on the roost together and sort of act perturbed that I'm back again but they still just sit there...they're not shivering like humans do but they're looking pretty blah and fluffy...not comfy and warm and relaxed like they usually look. I hate this weather!! I never used to mind the cold until I had chickens out there. Not being a chicken stinks because it would help if I knew if they were comfortable or not.

I can't even sleep because I'm scared to death I'll wake up to frozen feather bodies.

...maybe I should take the heat lamp back out there.

Freezing chicks hardly move around and near death chicks lay on their side hardly breathing. I had this problem earlier this year when I let my dad goad me into moving two very young chicks. I lost one and after two hours I brought the other back to warmth. Fluffed out chicks are just warming themselves and should be fine, just for future ref!
Ummm, I believe the BYC by-laws require you to set any and ALL eggs with ANY possibility of viability. At least, this is how the PA Thread rolls.
If someone tells me that's not the law I'll feint!
