4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

hello, this is my first time participating in a hatch-along and i am having a hard time finding the correct places to post things. can someone please send me a link to the main thread where i am supposed to be posting pictures for the contests, (celebrity look-alike, for instance) thank you for your time. ;)...... or is THIS the main thread? do i just state what contest number the pic is for and add it here?
This is the main thread! Many of the contests have threads too. I Think the celebrity chicken contests is psoted here ( if there is a thread then Im wrong! ) There was some concern that the contests would not be clear enough if there were not seperate threads for them so there were some changes made. It is confusing for everyone atm, including the mods, so don't fret if we are as clear as mud for a day or so.
Looks like celeb chickens go here!

OK, I did set 40 Iowa Blue eggs last night, but haven't posted yet. Taking a picture of them in the Reptipro was not very effective so I need to try again. I also don't like how it fluctuates temps so wildly. I have 4 thermometers and they all say something different. I got it because it was supposed to be better insulated against external temp changes, but bouncing back and forth from 98 - 101 seems a bit extreme. I really should tough it out and see how it goes, but I have my Genesis running empty right now and it's steady as always. I may chicken out and move most of them.
We started out with a reptipro, and I found each level had its own temp. It is part of the design iirc. Ours busted in the first 30 days and I got a different incubator. In fact I had to find one at 9:30 on a Sunday night on cl. Some angel answered my email and was willing to meet me and give me a bator and save my first Marans eggs. I loved the idea of the reptipro however.

I just posted my pic of my eggs. I was so neat to see everyone elses pictures of all the different colored eggs and all the different kinds of incubators.

She is a Chocolate Bibbed Call female, hatched from a fellow BYC'er. Oh, and she is full grown. Her whole body fits in your hand. So adorable.

What kind of ducks, Julie? : )

Pet quality calls. I had 2 last eggs before she stopped laying, so I went ahead and threw them in the incubator. I love ducklings.

I know I am way under the number of eggs set in my guess. It is great to see so many doing the hatch along. Great job to everyone who is working behind the scene to make everything work.

I am getting the Octogon 20. So so so excited! Especially after that last heartbreaking hatch that happened due to incubator crankiness.
Good for you!

Ohhhh....I have Brinsea Envy....and Call Duck Envy.
Did someone mention that their DH was freaked out by the 5 toed Silkies? My DH has never been close enough to any of the chooks to count their toes. This CAN and does work to my advantage as he never knows how many we have. (Nor do I most of the time!)
No eggs at PO again today, guess I will be waiting until this last box arrives before taking and posting my picture.

I finally became a member of BYC a few days ago after seeing information about the 4th Annual BYC New Year Day Hatch-along. What FUN!!! As a new member, I had no idea how very additive BYC is and very exciting to see what other people are doing. It occurred to me last night how lucky I am to have an automatic egg turner. I grew up on a 100 acre ranch in Texas and remember my Mother turning eggs in our “little brown hen” incubator. Loved seeing the chicks hatch as a child and very exciting to share this with my own children.
Welcome!!

Are your thermometers in F and C?

I have 6 Pet Quality Calls as well, plus a pair of Whites. My Chocolate girl is by far the smallest and has the smallest bill. Do you have any pictures of yours? I'd love to see them.
This is a very cool website - thanks for posting it! In the spring, I have a class that will be hatching eggs, and this will be very useful.
That sounds like a fun project!

i just received a beautifully packaged (as usual) box of gorgeous eggs from mrheinz77! They are in fabulous condition and are resting a bit before going into the incubator with my other 8 eggs. i will have to take a new photo showing the additional future chicklets
