OK, I had read that ducks that try to mate chickens can kill the chicken. So I always worried that would happen.

I know that the chickens act like middle schoolers, and ducks act like high schoolers, so are the geese the college kids? Do they have a sense of themselves and are the bosses? LOL

They can, but they tend to be more of an agrivation for the hens. My hen Honey took the brunt of it and I had to save her more than once. My game roo from the same pen tried to attack one of the drakes and he ended up hurting himself. Not badly, but it still upset me. I moved them out that day put them in with the pig.

In other news, I set my serama eggs at 12 today. I still can't find my camera cord.

First chick out. Unfortunately, it's not a cornish cross. Looking at the eggs, I'm not entirely sure why I put them in there as cornish cross?! The eggs are only about medium size and my cornish girls have been giving me jumbo mondo eggs. Unfortunately, this chick won't be able to stay here, along with the other one if it hatches, since they won't "fit in". I have to get rid of those brahmas as well. :/

Geese are good free ranging with most other birds. there are always exceptions to this as each have their own personality. Breeding season is when you have to be the most careful. ganders and geese both will claim a territory and defend it and run others off. We use breeding yards and paddocks to keep the various breeding pairs and trios separate from each other and the other animals. It makes put up and turn super easy too.

We run a flock of ducks in each main pasture, these spaces can often be shared by geese and chickens too. Keeping a careful eye on drakes (male ducks) to make sure they arent trying to molest chickens. So far so good around here.

Routine is a key thing for geese, be patient as they learn what you want from them. After a week they usually have it down and will be a joy to work with. Same goes for feed, they dont take to new food like piggie ducks, so dont give up until you try for a week with something new.

Hopefully I wont get introuble by posting this here but eveyone is here these days lol , I was wondering if any of you people that seem to know what your doing tinkering with things would like my old beat up lg with fan , maybe you mechanically inclined can get it to run or maybe you can use the fan and or heating element for a home made bator or something. For the life of me I cant find the replacement parts for it , it needs the fan replaced or maybe just tightend back on its missing one red plug and the windows while there are loose, and the bottom pan? is pretty beat up, I know hovabator offers replacement parts but I cant find anything but the fan kit for sale for this one. It would be free just pay shipping if you want to try to save it or use it for parts ect. Im done tryingt to get it to work for me , I do hatch in it it works enough for that I usually get about 35-45% I almost always use shipped eggs cuase we dont have many local people that have fertel eggs. Just let me know .
Its my dream to get a brinsea 20 advance some day I should make up a incubator saveings jar lol , Ill have to tell my cat no more 400 doller vet bills and my son no haveing to have a toy and five kinds of snacks every single time we go out of the house but I bet I could have one by next years new years day hatchalong woudnt that be an awsome thing to save for , How many other people would like a new bator maybe we should all make a nyd hatchalong resaloution to save up for our dream bator by next years NYD hatchalong that would be so much fun and might keep me on the strait and narrow if I had buddies to save with

Any bites on this yet? How much is shipping? I can totally go frankencrazy on that thing!!! I have epoxy and microcrontrollers ready and waiting for the right machine. *maniacal laughter*

Thank you! We have 27 ducks (5-7 are drakes), they have a nighttime pen with a house and we "wrangle" them to a day time grassy pen surrounded by premiere 1 electric fencing. We have predator issues, so I'm not sure if geese could free range here. That's why we would have to combine them. My kids just LOVE your geese!

The chicks that i hatched on Wednesday have graduated into their 'grow some feathers' pen! When they get those they get to go into the grow out coop, then the 'big girl coop' (AKA the layers)

I'm so sorry!

I am new to the hatching scene, so how do you know they died?  What exactly do I look for?

This is only my 2nd hatch. There was great veining all over the egg giving them a orange like glow when candled.This last candling the veins were not there.The ones i could see were brown looking.The inside of some of the eggs were sorta sloshy.After cracking open they were all dead. maybe next time.
