4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

HOLY EPIC JOURNEY ACROSS THE WEST COAST BATMAN!!!
ep.gif

I had been expecting some Lemon Blue Bantam Cochin eggs in the mail. But there was a little mixup/mistake as to where they were being sent. So they went from Escalon, CA to Sacramento, CA all the way to ANCHORAGE ALASKA. Then they were caught up in my forwarding that I have set up from my Alaska address and sent BACK to California by way of Richmond then on to Oakland. To top it off, they were sent to Antioch by mistake, marked as not deliverable as addressed then sent to Pittsburg CA where they were just dropped off to me at my home. Found them on the doorstep.......box on it's side...........

the side that says FRAGILE HATCHING EGGS on it.

SOOOOOO, I candled them and they look pretty bad. No breaks or cracks, but temps in AK were in the single digits and very very dry. Air cells are *ALL* detached. Some of them look like the yolk may have frozen or dried to the side of the shell? Not sure what to do here. Sierra View (the seller) was kind enough to send me more eggs ASAP, so I don't necessarily need to set these. But I am curious. Anyone have advice on banged up eggs? Detached air cells? Scrambled yolks? PICS WOULD BE SUPER HELPFUL!! Otherwise, I might let them sit for a while and try to set them for the NYD Hatch Along.

We shall see.... BTW....the postal service is officially the BANE of my existence.....

I couldn't help it.. looked at a couple of my eggs with the candler, looking good so far!!

Brechin sounds crazy!! I agree with Bettacreek, if you got the room, put em in! IF they hatch you got a good story to go along with a pretty chicken:)

on a side note, my BYC layout just changed, now every time I think I am clicking my profile I am really clicking the sponsors page...well played BYC, well played...

In other news, I set my serama eggs at 12 today. I still can't find my camera cord.
If you have a phone with internet you could e-mail it to yourself and then post it. I don't have internet but took the picture with my phone, texted to my husband and he emailed it to me on his work phone.

I feel like a kid, all excited that someone else posted about me. How silly is that?

lol (Especially for the reason, chicken died... my 4 year old is over it now btw. Now I am just trying to figure out how to dispose of the carcass. She is way to skinny to butcher, even if I knew for sure she wasn't diseased.)

I have learned my lesson to make sure I check out each of my chickens often. By the time I realized how weak she was, she was skin and bones (and feathers), I just didn't notice because of all the winter feathers.
sad.png
I have pet her almost daily, and maybe even picked her up, but it's been a while since she got an actual inspection. It's all a learning process, right? I still might not have been able to save her, who knows.

Just a note, all eggs need to be set by 19:00 (that's 7 pm) local time on 14 December 2012 to be counted as part of the NYD hatch.
Well maybe I will join. I am waiting for some swap eggs if they show up by tomorrow I will join or join anyways and just put the 5 Bantam welsummer eggs from my birds.
