I am having humidity issues. I am not stressing about it, but I am just trying to get a handle on it. I thought I would incubate dry until lockdown, as the humidity in the house is always 45-50%. The first day though, the bator was at like 16%, so I added a bit of water. That brought it up into the 30s... perfect. The water ran out in one day, and it went back down to 20, so I added more water than the first time so it wouldn't run out so fast. That brought the humidity up to almost 70%. *sigh* I didn't think it would do that, since it is the same amount of surface area of water. (I am adding to a very shallow container, not into the bottom of the incubator.) I did this so it would be much easier to take water out if needed. Anyway, I took half the water out, and now it is down in the 40s again. Am I going to need to add just a bit of water every day, or is there an easier way?

I'm having similiar issues. I have several pans of water (big incubator) and can't get it above 20%. I added the first pans 2 days ago and they are dry already. It is made to hook up toa water line and it adds it itself but we don't have it set up yet. We need to work on that to make it easyier. I guess I will just have to add another pan and just add water often for now.

Good Morning All!

I woke up around 5:00 AM this morning and checked on broody momma, no babies. Then I checked her again at 7:00 AM and I'm pleased to report we have 1 Duckling OUT!!

The adorable little thing is pretty much solid black, and has a smudge of orange on his neck/head. He is still drying off so I cannot be for sure what color it'll be. I took some pictures and will post when I get them off the camera.

I would name her Kahlua or Mudslide.

TMN, lovely story about Prim! Such a good mama! Mrs. Fluffy Puffy, I hope you have little duckies this morning and I liked how someone said LBD (little brown duck) was better than Twix, so I think Twix should be her name.

One duckling has springed forth this A.M...Yeah! We have three or maybe four pips, on the other eggs. So eggcited!

I think her name should be Hot Cocoa, because she looks like she has a marshmellow on her chest!

Aspen......we set more EE, OE and Wheaten AM eggs as well as setting more duck because we have orders piling up. Calling this morning for clearance to ship geese!

*Today is the day to set Corturnix Quail at noon

I set my Button eggs at 9:12 A.M. this morning.

Taz I did too, emailed asking if they would split them up and they will!

Gamebird going for both of the sportsman cabinets and looking at the lager units. I need to see those so I can figure out if they adjust enough to hold our goose eggs. Everything in the ad is set up for emu sized eggs.

Shellie, I cannot even begin to tell you how jealous I am!!! I want ALL of those incubators!! *evil smirk*

Rad up on twins they are tricky.
I love the Broodie stoties. Early this year in a rainstorm my we broody cage with sparkles with her first chicks came close to flooding so I moved her inside. It was in the same room as my incubator that was in lockdown.
She would call and call when the babies hatched until I gave them to her. She ended up with a whole another clutch 2 weeks younger ten her first one and raised them all. She is sitting on babies now I'll have to snap something.

I already did.

Where are the pictures of the broody duck? I may decide not to post pictures of the duckling if I don't see them S O O N! JK! LOL

Any body going or doing a dry hatch?

I tired doing a dry hatch once, I failed terribly! We have 0% humidity here, so dry hatching does not work for those of us that live out in the middle of nowhere, in a desert! LOL

I had to. I candled my little eggs last night and I can see veining already in some of them! I'll do it again on Saturday night or Sunday for an official *first candling*, but it looks like both of my litlte pairs of youngsters are fertile Very excited!

Our humidity has been a pain as well. All the dry heat in the house is dropping humidity and sucking out the water tray (half gallon size) in the incubator every two days. It's crazy!

I woke up to all three chicks hatched from the three eggs I had in the hatcher (due today). My temp runs a little high (100F) but my thermometer/hygrometer only does full digits, so that's the best that I can do. Walmart here quit carrying the nice white ones that measured to 0.1F. :/

Oh dear, my 40 watt bulb is always on, and this morning I woke up to the temperature at 97.8 degrees! I have a blanket on the incubator but.... it's getting cold all of a sudden here! Well, at least they're not cooking... hopefully it's ok

low is better than super hot, remember even momma hen or duck will get off the nest and the eggs will cool some.


Aspen I want them all too, but uuumm yeah we wont go there.

We dry incubate everything here until lockdown and then aim for 70% or higher. the more surface area you have the better for water pans. We use the disposable ziplock plastic pans with a mesh cover to keep new hatches out of the water. ALWAYS adding warm to hot water to bring humidity up.
