OMGoodness!!!!! Guess what Peepz?? Momma Chicken was still sitting on one duck egg that never hatched, I'd candled it and I didn't see any movement or anything, but I left it just in case. Yesterday morning I added two more duck eggs to her nest. Well this morning when I checked on her her duck egg was PIPPED and CHIRPING!!!!

Momma Chicken is gonna have a duckling! Momma Chicken is gonna have a duckling!! WooHoo. No, I am not excited in the least.

However, she was super upset this morning and wouldn't get back on the nest, she is probably AE'd at me for selling her ducklings ( AE'd = Angry Eyed

). I took the hatching duck egg and the other two eggs Id stuck under her yesterday morning and transferred them to the 'bator. I hope to post some cute duckling pictures very soon! Keep your finger's crossed for the lil thing.

Oh, that IS exciting! Congrats! :)

Here's 2 of my Christmas presents the wife got for me LF Mottled Cochins 5 hens an a cock bird what a great Christmas gift I hope you all get great gifts like these Merry Christmas everyone.

they look small till you consider I am 6.5 LOL

Well, it's confirmed. Red has got to go. Nine infertile out of 15. Only six of my eggs are developing and the temp wasn't the culprit. I am extremely unhappy with Red and chances are he's going to be dog food. No one is going to take a mean roo that doesn't do his job. Unless someone has another idea as to what is going on with him. I've had fantastic hatch rates in the past with him as the covering roo.

Gosh you guys, I check this thread about 15 times a day and everytime I see updates, I get the urge to go candle, hahaha. I must restrain myself to only candle once a night, I don't see how some of you can restrain yourself to candling only twice throughout incubation!

Last night when I candled, it seems that 2 of them passed away. Blood vessels shriveled up into nothing and the blood pooled up in a large ring around the small lifeless embryo. I always end up with a couple day 5-7 deaths with shipped eggs, but never my own eggs. I've always wondered why, does anyone else see this?

That is a great gift! Nice big birds. I've got to put the bug in my hubby's ear for some new pretties. (Because I don't have near enough birds)

If he's having low fertility AND he's mean, the stewpot sounds like a good idea. I can't tolerate mean chickens here. The first rooster we had (came with the laying flock) was NASTY. I had bruising all of the time, mostly on my thighs. I let it go until he trapped my youngest son, who ended with a scratch above his eye and a split on his lip. That was that rooster's last hour here. My boys now are perfect little angels. They have attacked a bear, and have even tried to protect me from the bear and keep me clear of the field where the bear came and went, but they have NEVER attacked any of us. They earned their right to stay til the end of their days (and not have those days cut short), and I now have a new respect for roos... We have six of them now, lol.
