Betta and molly do you also have it so your invisable? Just curious if you do or if your on your phone so it dosnt show up or whatever I was wondering if I show up as normal when Im on my phone ?
Shelley, I have the same stuff in mine...I don't notice a smell at this point...I know a lot of people use it but I am not 100% sure about fumes and possible damage to the chicks..can you let me know what people tell you in case I miss the answer and if it is bad I will pull mine out.
I had put that rubber matting in my hatcher while I was warming it up and getting it ready for lockdown. I noticed it smelled a little, but my real concern was that it was affecting the humidity because it blocked the water wells so much. I ended up taking it out and I'm hatching on the 1/4" hardware cloth. At least I hope I'm hatching - I had three pips when I went to bed last night, and I have three pips this morning. No progress. Thank goodness for Sally Sunshine's post about not panicking and not touching anything as long as they have air to breathe - it is so-o-o tempting to go in and hurry things along.
Hmm, mine has lots of holes in it and doesn't seem to be affecting the humidity - I'm holding steady at 62-63% which is right where I want it ... I think! If you close up on this pic, you can see all the air holes and I do have sponge underneath in the tray too.
Good Morning! Trying to read all the posts from last evening, congratulations to everybody who have chicks and/or pipping eggs. Mine are stubbornly silent, if they don't get a move on I won't have a chick even close to midnight!
We always hatch with the rubber shelf liner in each hatching drawer. It stabilizes the eggs and keeps the new hatchlings from splaying on slick wire. Those using styrofoam bators can compensate any humidity issues by using sponges and containers of water ONTOP of the wires.
Good Morning, I am having the opposite problem it seems compared to many people..I added water and my humidity is ridiculously high. It currently reads 73%. Does anyone know a way I can get it down?
No pips still, so I did a quick candling. I only see movement in 2 of them. 2 of them still have a bit of space, and the other 2 have more than a bit of space left. I'm wondering if high humidity can cause this? I raised the humidity this hatch because last hatch I had many die from too low of humidity and I admit I never took out the air cell chart. oh and I have 6 eggs left in there, 2 of them are too dark to see in.
I did wash it first, but perhaps the heat inside has exacerbated the aroma. Crossing fingers it won't harm them. I'd never forgive myself
We are still waiting for some action on this end. I keep chatting up my lovebird in the hopes that his incessant noise will draw the lil buggers out. Crossing fingers. I wanna peep by midnight! Of course hubby has made New Years Eve plans for us ....
Invisible is a PPM feature/benefit...when on an ipad or iphone you show up in the member list as normal (UNLESS) you have PPM and selected the invisible mode
OK, I'm officially down to 3 eggs left out of 33. My daughter just pitched the last of the duds & quitters over the hill. Oh well, at least if I get the "Worst Hatch Rate" award I'll have "something" out of all of this.
3 lonely little Coturnix Quail eggs are all that's left in there & they aren't even rocking. I think they are behind due to the move & low temps. The only chick to hatch from my Christmas babies was 3 days late. I really hope the quail aren't that far behind as well.
These are the babies from yesterday 8/9 buttons hatched yesterday ( the last one hatched befor I got up this morning) and 1/2 cortunix eggs ( the second hasnt done anything yet) 1 pip in a pretty percarious spot in the serama eggs as of this morning.
Above is a Sebastopol gosling who came from white parents (sebbies who will be white are hatched with some color that vanishes when real feathers grow in)
