I've never had this happen before. I think I made a huge mistake by putting the incubator on the taller dresser. CPL sent me those serama eggs and she even added in some extra special ones. I feel like I failed. I haven't had this bad of a hatch since the very first one.

My silkie eggs and my own mutts did great. fertility on the bcm's i bought was horrific. eggs came from 4 pens, 2 pens didnt have a single fertile egg. had 2 hatch, one pip n drown. leaves 8 still in there. meh

Finally! I have two zippers ... these two were pipped sometime between 2am and 7am this morning and they are just getting around to zipping now after torturing me all day long Interesting though ... they both made new holes to start their zip from. Is this common in peeps that have waited quite a while before zipping? My humidity has been consistently between 62-67% so I don't think they dried out.

UPDATE -- 7pm E

Note ALL apparent wetness of inner membranes is the result of me touching water to it in order to moisten & to see better.

I took the egg shell down to just above the air cell line so I could get a better look at what was going on it there!
I think they still need more time to absorb, I'm still seeing a fair amt of red veins in the membrane *when I wet it* -- ?? What do ya'll think?

Note they have NOT spun or moved relative to the shell AT ALL in the 5 hrs since I did the external pip,
I did use the twessers to make sure no bits of eggshell might fall into their mouths, and to widen the area so their nostrals are finally out of the membrane w/o rupturing any membrane just eased if apart ever so gently to give the beaks some movement.

Here is B - who bled a tiny drop at 2pm when I accidently took a piece that went below the aircell line -- i think now at 7pm it still needs more time?
note the whitness of the inner membrane just to the left of the beak , it was ALL like that again until I rewet (this w/ bator at 78% and wet towel over them all day)






& Finally Egg E the original loud one that saved them all






So given they still don't look "done yet" to me, I'm more & more thinking the internal pips (even though 24 hrs later than hatch time) were purely a result of the bator falling, and they never would have internal piped those dry membranes, but if they could have it would have not even have happened when it did, but later, as in they are both running late AND too dry. But that is just based on comparing to other pictures I've seen here -- this is all new to me...

I think you're right, they're not quite "done yet". I had 2 like that last night and dampened them and left them in the bator over night. This morning they were in the exact same position, so I helped them out. They are in the brooder now, a bit behind in terms of maturity than the others, but holding their own.

Haha! Maybe I will if I get another case of the 'cleansies'. My husband is probably happy he's at work, because usually when this happens, he just shoves himself into a corner out of the way and hopes I don't find him something to do too.

Ron, I've actually thought about doing that! Tomorrow I may go snowshoeing on Bogus Basin mountain, and then on Friday I'll probably drive down to Miracle hotsprings to soak away the inevitable sore muscles. Idaho really is super fun for outdoor activites, I have to admit.

Probably the worst hatch I've ever had. Started with 46 eggs, 19 at lockdown and only 4 hatched. The ones that hatched were all next to each other and were from my Silkie mix pen. I'm wondering if the picture that fell on the incubator did more damage than I thought to the bigger eggs. The eggs that hatched were small. Two were Serama/Showgirl mix and the other two were Silkie or Sizzle/Showgirl mix. My roo in there is a Partridge Showgirl. One of the Seramas and one of the Silkie or Sizzle chicks has a showgirl neck like their daddy. They are awfully cute! I'll have to get some pictures soon.

I will be done hatching for awhile now. Hopefully Spring will be here soon: Wishful thinking I know, but hey!

My little Nankin just may make it. The only one my friend gave
me. The other eggs are huge. I hope this one makes it out
by tomorrow, a day earlier than the others..pretty sure they
won't start until Fri..due date for them all. The pip on this one
is right under the X, on the right bottom x side.

Only two of my eggs developed and none of them hatched =( I'll leave them in the bator another day or two, and then I'm setting a new batch. So sad!!!1

so sorry. I lost all of mine too, power went off and was out for about 17 hours

Something you can do in the event of a power outage is to buy yourself a bunch of "hand warmers". You know, those things you remove from their package, shake and stick them in your pocket? You can do a bunch of those, put them in your incubator and wrap the incubator in towels and blankets to keep them warm. Also, a power inverter of some sort attached to a car battery and plug your bator in that way.

Here's my only chick so far. I do have hope for one other egg, but the rest are dead.

For those of you who saw my thread, he's doing a lot better. He is a lot less 'mushy' now and he can stand with support. He's not walking yet, but I have been given some ideas of how to get there.

Here's the problem with his legs, they stay in front of him like this and he flings them up and down which gets him no-where.

I have them like this sort of often. I just leave them be. It's generally less than a day til they're up and on their feet. If you do put him in the coffee cup for a while, after taking him out, leave the hobbles on his legs for a while so he can move around, building muscle is far better for correction than sitting still.

I'd leave them for a while still. If I was to do anything beyond what you've done, I would only slightly crack the shell around where he would have zipped it. Then let him struggle on his own to get out. That struggle strengthens them and they should be able to stand up shortly after hatching.
