4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Hi everyone and thank you all so much!

I've been out of the house all day and came back to a new hatchling, another zipping and another egg pipping! Yowza! I am so amazed. this was my second attempt at hatching, my first was a dismal failure.

Nothing lived.

The one that hatched had horrible leg & feet abnormalities and died the third day after hatch. I felt so guilty, and was not sure I would ever try again. It was only because of this Hatch-a-long and all of the support here at BYC that I even tried again. I don't think I will ever look at fertile egg or a baby chick again in the same way.

Thank you all so much.

Here are my three babies that hatched yesterday. Not the best picyure but the silly things just will not stop moving! Two Silver Penciled Rocks and 1 Campine (I think)

Adorable!

We now have 10 chicks out of the incubator with a few currently hatching! 7 silkies (buff, black, blue and paint) and 3 we aren't sure about. They are sooooo cute!

We did put about 100 eggs in the bator though. This has been one of our worst hatch rates and other than the ever changing weather in TN we can't figure out why. :/

As much as I love collective hatching threads, I hate when its starts getting later past the due date. Thats when we here the tragic stories. Shrink-wrapped, leg problems, a strange semi fertilized double yolker. I've been there, the one hoping, crying and trying to get my chicks to hatch. Lots of luck to you who are waiting and those who are hoping! I'm still following along with you.

There are several of us here in TN w/ hatching problems which I really do thing have some to do w/ the repeated massive air pressure changes, it has been really extream, not just the day the SE had 30 tornadoes but repeatedly for the past 14 days, during which I know we've had over 3 days w/ winds 60-80 mph, and a combined total of over 14 inches of rain, also ice storms, hail, and today freezing fog. I figure if a stormfront can cause a sinus headach, it can cause other things, like maybe issues w/ keeping incubators working properly!

Meanwhile, PELE
thanks for the web cam, watching 2 hatch has been inspiring : )

Thank you. It really does make it better for me knowing people understand and are keeping their fingers crossed for me and my little ones.

I know, this is getting so sad! However, some people set 3-4 days late, so there should be some happy stories mixed in??!!

Skip another 90+ pages. I came home tonight after moving most of my stuff to my new house & returning the U-Haul to find that 2 of my quail finally decided to make an appearance. They weren't there a couple hours ago when we started unloading the truck. They are over a day & a half late so I'm really surprised. Waiting to see if the last 1 will hatch or not. I may actually manage to NOT have the worst hatch rate after all.
