4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

This is my brooder as of this AM, right before I put my little umbilical dragged in there... Amazing what a mess they can make Ina couple of hours!

This is the little one that pipped the wrong end. At this point she still needed to absorb her yolk sac...

And this is the other black and white, just waiting to finish kicking out of her shell...

This was my mystery chick this morning. She has the huge mushy abdomen and was still very weak. I took these three to work with me in the bator...

Here they are this afternoon... My mystery chick in the little box I made her so she can stay upright, and the two black and whites wrestling!
I made the decision last minute to put the little umbilical dragged in the brooder because the cord had dried up and shriveled. I didn't take another picture of the brooder after I put her in, so here she is in the bator just before I moved her...

So I have 22 live chicks!
22 of 45 total, of 31 that made it to lockdown... I had one that hatched, then died about an hour later... Does that count towards my hatch rate? That would mean I hatched 51% instead of 49%...

where in Texas are you? depending on breed I would be interested...the two that hatched didn't survive...long story and don't want to talk about it...brooder got compromised some how and dogs well yeah...i'm still Perry sore about the whole situation. anyway, where are ya?
I'm about 8 hours from you...I live in the TX Panhandle, between Matador and Childress (bet ya never heard of those towns...lol).
The boys love the NYD chickies. Seven "Baby Kevins"! Hooray.

I'll have you know that brooder was spotless at 7am when I left for work. They've been busy, little buggers.

Thomas sporting the chapped lip look (he's a hand gnawer when playing on the computer)

and Tyler talking to his baby Kevins.

I now have nine hatched 2 yellows one with s blavk spot ine its back. And 7 black and silvers. 4 of which have yelow on top of head tips of wings butt and slightly on their neck. Which bewilders me why. 5 to go and 3 are pippes and one is working on coming out. Pics as soon as i get them in brooder. Probly in morn.

My big one hatched about a half an hr. ago. It's black, with white on it's head, and white on each side of it's behind..I think..will see better when dried. I know for sure that white on the head is there..now to stay? I'm trying to remember if he has a barred rock hen! The friend I got the eggs from that is.
