I figured it this way, it is like taking an umbrella to a picnic;
I got hit hard this 1st hatch by Murphy's Law, and found I had no adult bevs, no ice cream, was out of choc, ran out of tissues.

We only go for groceries once a month.

I set a batch of eggs tonight, but now we have 1/2 gal ice cream in the freezer, I have a giant 90%coca choc. bar hidden from myself for emergency need, a case of TP rolls, & a friend is giving me a 1/2 bottle of left over from holidays (she hates it) red wine,so by all the powers of logic, reason, and chicken math in the universe, I will have a 100% hatch rate this go round ; P

Whdda ya mean I look like Jeff Dunhams crabby old man puppet Walter...bahhh
Whoops!Cant add the pic with my phone! shoot!

Last year we had the First Annual Cinco De Mayo Turkey Hatchalong for those of us that had never set turkey eggs before. It was borne out of the Easter Hatchalong and eggs were set almost immediately following the Easter hatch. Of course, other more experienced turkey hatchers joined in the fun and helped all of us novice turkey hatchers....and we had to set chicken eggs to hatch a day or two before the turkey eggs were due so that they could "tutor" the poults for eating and drinking..... so chicken hatching occured along with the turkey hatching. Nothing is as big as the NYD or Easter Hatchalongs but all hatchalongs are fun to be a part of.

Quote: Yup, I was one of those novice hatchers. I hatched one Royal Palm and it grew up with my silkies/showgirls. Then I went out and bought a batch of turkey poults. When I moved the one turkey to join the ones I bought, he yelped pitifully for days looking for his silkie siblings.

I'm trying to work myself up to butchering one soon. I have 13 big turkeys, the 6 toms are HUGE! If I can get it down to two trios (slates and RPs), it would seriously reduce my feed bill. I let them range in my spent garden every day, they have stripped everything bare.
