Wow congratulations everyone!! Although I didn't win I am super happy with myself lol because I posted my guess at 1130 which was only 70 off haha! That's pretty good for me haha! Also just wanted to say thank you to all the sponsors and organizers this has been a very cool contest!!!

Heck no! Others have posted on the threads with missing winners wondering where the winners are. I think it is the Short Story and the Holiday Photo contest yet to announce but I think those are crazypetlady's contests and she has been sick as were all been told by chiqita. Hope she is doing better! Hope it isn't that dangerous flu!

Sally have you ever run into this? We hatched out 6 silkies and one can't stand. It just lays on its back or side and kicks. I have taken it out and held it upright to help him get his balance but he insists that he lay down and kick. When we put them in the brooder 1 hour or so I will compare for defects. Thanks for any help.

I have not, but someone else on here did and had done therapy and a little seat to help them, alot of times people use tea cups! That way it forces them to stay standing.......

Tea cups that's a good idea. Do you know if the chick came out of it or was always unable to use it's legs right?
Yes orthopedics, our last batch of silkies had two that needed help keeping his legs together. The band-aid hobbles worked great. 1 day later it was fine. funny at first because they walk funny and look between their legs.

I have read a lot of your stuff and links that is why i pm'd you. I thought that you would know something about this.

So I'll try to put the chick in something to keep him upright and try to find the not to hot/cold part in the brooder. I tried last night to keep the chick upright in my hands for an hour.

You have to make sure the chick is getting fluids. UPACV/water. Using the vinegar will allow the chick to absorb more vitamins when they eat. The warm cup with vet wrap on the bottom usually works. Every two hours the chick needs to eat and drink.
1/2 tsp for 1 qt of filtered water. If they are not eating well, add sugar or electrolytes to the water too. Make sure you are not adding to many electrolytes, measure carefully.

delisha~ I just gave the chick starter bucket a good stir. I didnt see bubbling but it looks like a malt beer on top and sure smells like one too!! so its about 24 hrs now.... should it bubble? it has tiny bubbles around the outside, sorta foam like?

Some times its not the legs if they cant stand. Do the legs look normal? Can you give him some infant vitimins? Hold him in the right postion as much as you cn get him to eat and drink. yogurt is ok and helps with hydration and nutrtion
You can build him a little mobile if he needs help staying upright?
