I think I'll move mine into the basement for now... I thought it would be warm enough in the kennel building, but I guess not...Yah, TMNfarm, I think if the food isn't going bad (like with fungus or mold) it's just wet and partly fermented. I don't think that's a problem at all. I think I've discovered that the kitchen is indeed warmer than the room I have my first bucket in. It is really looking active. Especially since I put that yeast in there! I put yeast in the other budket too, but not so much action thereSo I guess I'll be keeping these in the kitchen from now on until the weather warms up, LOL![]()
Quote: YAY!!! Thank you TONS AND TONS!! so excited!! I already got a 55 gal drum to use for the biguns!!! but I need more ACV now!!
I wonder how much ACV for a 55 gal drum!!
I wonder if I can add rasins to the feed for the big birds? Or would that mess up the process? same thing with Molasas and stuff!
I would think you could add what ever you wanted.
For a 55 gallon drum remember you have to stir it, so don't fill it too full of dry feed.
I would add a cup of UPACV to 1/4 container of dry feed in that 55 gallon container. By the time you add water you will be half full.
I tell people who are just starting..... to start with just the mash until they get the hang of it.
Give yourself a week of feeding and replacing till you have it going well.
Than add stuff like wheat, raisins, garlic, what ever. Worried about worms toss in pumpkin seeds, need extra fat, toss in BOSS, birds need a little boost toss in Oregano. Etc..
CAN I Ferment my dogs food????
My dog has allergies and her feed has been fermented before the birds feed..
Any old dog food work? And I assume it will take little feed and ALOT of water, does that mean I need more ACV to start it? I have 5 dogs
I actually do not use that much, but, I am feeding one dog, and a small one at that. I use 1/4 cup for 5 lbs of food. cover it in water. You need to add water again.
you are fine, just warm it up and add a bit more acv..I think my first attempt at fermenting feed was a miserable failure... There is no fermented smell, no bubbles, just wet mushy feed. I'm pretty sure I know what I did wrong. I started it with water from my barn faucet, which is really cold, so I probably killed the cultures in the ACV... So....
Can I still feed the mushy feed? It's been sitting for 5-6 days... Can I add warm water and more ACV to the water left in the bucket, or do I need to dump the whole thing and just start over??
I was unable to pics of them today, but I'll see if I can get them to cooperate with me in just a bit and try to get the pics. I also found out Here (feathersite) that bumblefoot is a breed, but it's it's a strain of Sweater Grey. I'm still learning about the game breeds and how their genetics work, but they don't look like a Grey or a Hatch.
Also, I found out today that I'm having a boy!!!!!![]()

Congrats Razadia! Hope you are feeling well with everything going on!
Yeah. It's really weird to find out there's a breed called bumblefoot when we all know it's a condition with their feet. These are the same two birds I'm having trouble finding out what's wrong with their legs. I got a few pics of them a bit ago. I also got pics of their legs, but the cord I was trying to use with my camera won't work and I still can't find the one that goes with it.You are talking about your bird, right?
Thank you, I am. I'm just a bit sick after the sudden spike in temp here. We think the warm temps got mold growing and I'm very highly allergic to it.Top part of her post is about her birds. Last part is about herself.
