No I haven't. I don't really want to mess with their natural cycle and I can just imagine the electricity bill skyrocketing. I love their eggs, but if they need a break every winter than so be it. I'll be getting some eggs from my neighbors for the hatch along.Have you tried using a lamp in the coop to give them 14 hours of ligt a day?![]()

It doesnt take much light or cost. single 75w replacement compact floro would cost you maybe 10 dollars a year to operate if thatNo I haven't. If you can keep them inside you could use a storage container (minus the lid) with a short piece of wood over half and some hard ware cloth over the entire top. For a light you could use a clip on fixture on the top, or a hole cut in the side just under the lip if it isn't big enough to clip on. This is pretty much what I use to brood my chicks in. There's also a lot of other options here on BYC.I'm really wanting to take part in this. I just got a starter Hova-bator incubator, and it will be my first time hatching eggs. Sadly, I currently live in town and while my town has no regulations against having chickens, I simply have no place to keep them after they hatch! But it would be so nice if I could test out my incubator with a half-dozen or so eggs.![]()
