Thank you sounds like so much fun. Im glad my DH hasnt been paying to much attention to my egg addiction lol. Im gonna have to try and figure out a way to sneak another incubator in the house :)

So ... what do we do until set dates? I guess we can enter some of the contests now, ya? Does anyone have a really good home made incubator plan cause I've looked everywhere and no one out here has any! I could resort to having one of my young silkies try to set, but they haven't started laying yet so might be hit and miss.
I made two of THESE incubators and they are GREAT!! Keep temp and humidity perfectly.

Had a bulb blow in 1 of my 2 brooders over night. Since it's in the barn no one found it til my landlord went out to feed his birds at 5am. No telling how long it was out. It may have been out as long as 10 hours since I did my feeding at 7pm. So far, 3 dead babies & 1 not looking too good. The other 5 seem to be recovering but only time will tell. If it had been the bigger babies instead of the newly hatched ones they may have stood a better chance since they are partially feathered in & there are more of them in that brooder to snuggle together.
Gosh, I'm so sorry, that's so sad!
If I was not going out of town, I would have thrown the 8 week olds out yesterday, but I am being extra careful since my swedish flower hen pullet is one of them and she is one of my favorites.
Wow, she is really beautiful!

60's is much better than 40's which is about where mine are in the barn. Your 8 week olds should have no problems at all with 60 degree temps & really don't even need a light any more. If your 2 week olds are feathered in fairly well they would be fine as well. I have tossed chicks out to the coop with daytime temps in the 50's & nighttime dropping to the 30's at 2 weeks old & not lost a single baby to the cold. With the older chicks in there to keep the younger ones warm I doubt there would be any problem at all if you lost the heat lamp for several hours.
And I'm so worried, mine will be nearly 6 weeks if I get the coop finished at the end of next weekend! And even then I'm afraid to put my Seramas outside this winter, LOL. I plan on another in-house coop for them!
December 10th is 21 days away (how ironic), I sure wish it would come sooner! I'm getting so eggcited!!! Part of me wants to start the incubator now for testing, but it's too soon.
I have plenty to do, I need to scrub mine down, disinfect and decide which one to use, LOL. I think my newest one (i made 'em) with a few modifications, so I need to figure out how to modify it for more stable humidity. Surface area is too large and and I'd like more flexibility there... not sure how though... Hummm

Our cabinets are all up and running non stop since the beginning of October. Have one last set of eggs to lock down tomorrow then all of them get turned off, scrubbed down and turned back on again.

This is who I have signed up so far for the egg swap. THIS IS NOT THE HATCH PARTICIPANTS.
