4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

We have a TON of khaki campbell duck eggs available for hatching. these girls out lay all chickens with an average of 300-340 per year. Aside from our EE who are in a separate pen we have our eating egg flock (2 ee roos, a BCM room over BCM girls, 2 blue laced wyandottes and a few OE hens I am willing to make a deal on for those just wanting to hatch anything. The other pure breds I am snatching up and setting everything they myself all of December. They are post molt so not everyone lays, but we have for one BCM girl laying from the shell color. Again they are our weekly eating eggs, but fertile if anyone is interested 0.50/egg from that coop.

I fell behind, oops.

Just thought I'd say thanks for this. I'm going to try it

Seems the temp doesn't really bother the eggs/chicks from hatching so far. Though this morning my extra thermometer said 95.7 and I set my eggs last night

I bumped the temp on the bator to 100.5 for now.

I fell behind too! Glad I could help :) . I'm crossing my fingers for a Brinsea for Xmas, but my Husband just gives me a frightened look when I mention it... so....

Oh no ! the chicken's have a 1 acre fenced run, might need 2 acres for the ducks....the plowable acreage of this place are quickly going down

Make sure you rotate their areas! Our ducks dig up the ground, making for a mud pie mess! We have an electric fence that moves around the yard, giving them fresh grass/ground every 10 days or so. That way, the other patches of ground recover and regrow. I WISH I had 2 acres just for ducks!!!!

I'm asking for the GFQ Gensis 1588 hova bator incubator for christmas, it sounds much better than my 1602N hova bator. Do any of you guys use this incubator, would you recommend it? I happened to come across one for $100 today, but it's for today only so I would need to make my decision quickly. Also, if I bought it today, estimated delivery is before December 6th so I would be able to use it for the hatch along, If I acually get it.

Since everyone was talking about the weather, I thought I would make y'all jealous. Todays high was 82 and last night it was 60 degrees. It is supposed to rain tonight though and tomorrow it will be 64 (still not too bad).

I have this one and I like it lot. It holds the preset temperature well, and it is convenient not to have to fuss with the wafer type of thermostat. My % hatch rate with my own eggs is about 86%; more like 50-70% with shipped eggs. Every time I hatch, I try to get an improved percentage - I marvel and envy those who are getting close to 100%.

If you found it so cheap, that's great! It gets super reviews so I would go for it if I had the cash to spend!!!.... or not spend, LOL. Good luck!

CelticOaksFarm, I met someone this weekend who told me that duck eggs are so much better than chicken eggs! As much better tasting as free range chicken eggs are to store bought! Gives me an incentive to move out of the city, I tell ya! LOL

82 too high for this time of year, that means really hot summers yuck. I will take the 30 degrees as long as there is no wind.
