I'm sorry if this should be in predators or behavior but I'm concerned for my girls this coming 4th.

To say my neighborhood goes all out would be a massive understatement. We're outside city ordinances and near an Indian reservation that has a whole booth city to sell you what the state won't. It starts the 2nd and goes until the wee hours of the 5th. It's really bad from about 4pm until 4am, day of.

Should I bring my girls inside, maybe the basement where our cats and dogs have always fled to? Any tricks are much appreciated!

Yeah, people are rude for shooting of al those loud fireworks for hours and hours. :rantI don't do those loud things either. If your basement isn't musty or moldy, maybe it wouldn't hurt to put them in there. But my chicks are near my air conditioner and the noise of it, and my step-dad mowing didn't freak them out.

Mine are pretty immune to our riding mower, too but my neighbors on three sides do giant mortar displays that burst over our backyard. That and the teenagers down the street that ALWAYS blow up M80s and 1/4 stick dynamite have me thinking this will be far worse (my ears actually popped last year!) Plus, my pullets were in their first thunderstorm yesterday and were TERRIFIED! I actually locked them up to keep them from running around and hurting themselves.

I live away from town, but I can still hear fireworks that people set off. But I understand; people are rude, disrepectful and have no consideration for other people especially the young people my age and teenagers. :mad:If you think putting you chickens in your basement would help (as long as it's not damp, moldy or musty smelling in there) then go for it. Maybe if you stayed with your chickens for awhile, talking sweetly to them it will help calm them down?

I lol'd at the "people my age" because I'm in my thirties but feel like that crotchety old man that sits on his porch, shaking a useless fist and screaming at everyone who drives by to "slow down!!!" even when they aren't speeding :lau

I think sitting with them will work best. The basement is "musty" from disuse but has windows I could open to air it out if it comes to it. I'll clean both large dog crates just in case and air it out with the hope I don't need it.

Ugh, when did I get so old? :gig

Nah, we're not old, we just don't like the way people behave.
