4th of July and panicked birds? Dangerous?

Mine are staying out on their “usual” routine. They are 7-9 weeks old. They have been mowed around, weed whacked and had the tractor in close proximity. I have also pounded t-posts in all around them, twice(which is very loud!) and we had thunder yesterday and the day before. Hopefully they’ll just huddle together under or in the coop if they’re frightened.

The 4th goes on for WEEKS here. It started at least a week ago and will be loud into August.

Folks behind us have been setting off what has to be expensive mortors.

My birds don't seem bothered.

My dogs on the other hand. :barnie

My chooks run to the fence when DH is mowing because he purposefully sends the grass trimmings into the run for them to dig through for grasshoppers, weeds and bugs. lol

They go into the coop when we shoot our guns and when the neighbors shoot off fireworks. Fireworks season started last weekend and will run to Labor Day around here.

Give them something in the coop to keep them busy - watermelon rinds, slices of zucchini or cucumbers, maybe a head of lettuce hanging from the ceiling.
I cut overgrown zucchini in half the long way and sprinkle the halves with sunflower seeds. They will eat that zucchini right down to the shell, leaving a zucchini boat behind.

I get "calming treats" for my gun shy English Setter. It mellows him out and he will nap through all the noise. I use the treats for thunderstorms also, works like a charm and he loves them.

I sympathize: our pitbull mix was our family member and guardian for 15 amazing years. Raised a pug puppy, several kittens, a litter of baby bunnies and several human children for that matter. Survived being mauled by my parents German shepherd. But set off a single firework...big baby!!! Rescue remedy for pets really was a godsend!

Sadly, this is the first year he won't be a concern :(
