Right. It is kind of obscure but the southern end of the river blockade was Port Hudson, LA.
When Vicksburg fell, P. Hudson had no reason to hold out. Winner.

The City of Vicksburg did not commemorate the 4th of July until recently because of the bad memories of the Seige. (I'm not sure if they do now actually.)
