New Madre, Missouri. 1811&12. The shock rang churchbells in Boston. The Miss. River ran backwards to fill Reelfoot lake which was created by the quake. However it was only an 8.2 (est).
I was not aware of Prince Willliams Sound, Alaska in 1964 which was a 9.2. Points go to Brooks.
