4wk chick gasping and weezing.

I have a 4wk old Welsummer that this morning was gasping for air badly and weezing, like somebody with asthma would. also, she seems to sneeze some as well.

She seems very weak and does not want to stand up, eat or drink. We have been syringe feeding her water with electrolytes, but even that is tough, and I am admittedly not experienced with this and don't really know how to get her to eat the yogurt/food mash I mixed up.

I do have Duramycin 10 and oxytetracycline, and then I have a wormer, otherwise I am at a loss, and don't want to lose this little bird.

I already have confirmed that her crop is not the issue

Her nostrils and eyes are clear and not draining.

Inside her mouth looks clear, but I have yet to try to stick a q-tip down there as I read about on another post to look for gapeworm.

A little background about her is that she as always had "shakes" to a certain extent and has not really feathered out as well as her peer sisters. Also, she's never been as adept at jumping or flying as all the other chicks I've had. I have always been curious if she may have Mareks even though she was vaccinated, which I know is not 100%.

also yesterday she suffered an injury to her comb, but only slight. put neosporin on it.

the more i read about Mareks, the less it fits. she still tyries to jump onto the edge of her box and perch... she has some energy when she summons it but gladly lets her head hang low when i hold her.

any help?

There is a condition called aspergillosis or brooder pneumonia that can occur when chickens are exposed to mold, such as might occur with pine shavings plus spilled feed whan waterers leak. But she may have a bad heart which has caused her past weakness, and is causing her gasping and wheezing. I would seriously doubt that she has gapeworm at 4 weeks, unless she is living outside with other chickens who have it. Is she from a hatchery, feed store, or did you hatch her? If she came from a breeder, it's possible that she has brought something home with her, but I would think there would be more than one sick. Thank you for the link. I will read through. Just got done making her drink some water, little squirts into her mouth between gasps. She ate a few bites of mash. As I stated, she has never seemed "athletic," if I may, the other ones from the same hatchery (different breeds) are jumping and flying to perches like normal, where this one is far behind and seems plain clumsy.

I hate to see her suffering, but have come to the reality that I am limited to the drugs to treat, and she is young, and suffering a bit. I want to give her a chance, but want very much to do my part to help her.

Confirmed that her nose and eyes seem very clear, yet she sneezes.

Mold or fungus on the first line . . . She just a couple days ago went to an organic starter that has corn in it, known to more easily have mold. . . OK, moving on to the second line,

Ok, last line, no treatment . . . Not what I was hoping to see, but the CRD of Mycoplasm types seem to not quite fit due to the clear eyes and noses if I am understanding them correctly . . ?

Are they being brooded inside a house or outside in a coop or barn? CRD would be something that would be spread by other chickens or sometimes by wild birds, but also can come from parents through hatching eggs. She should have more symptoms with CRD. Sneezing with runny nose can be a sign of infectious bronchitis.

they are very spoiled in a garage in a large area that is insulated and never lower than 60 degrees. now in the house of course

Would I be off base to try the antibiotics, in the slight chance its CRD, or what would you do if it was your chick?
