5 acres in the country.... NO LIVESTOCK?!?! *EDIT*

Countrywife, you may well be correct--I just went back and read the original post and it did say that they were getting a loan, not that they had one.

If this is the case, they they need to read all the covenants very carefully to determine whether they are a deal breaker or not. Contacting the other three owners and seeing how they perceive the covenants and their willingness to make changes (or not) would allow them to gage whether that is an available option.

When we bought this place in the country, I looked all over to try to find one without covenants. This house was a foreclosure too.

Our real estate person told us, unfortunately ALMOST ALL the small acreages now under 10 acres are subdivisions with covenants. Something about the way the laws were written in our county, etc. So its a mess.

He told me the only thing I would find now in the country was either 1)something over 10 acres, 2) an older home/acreage that had been built before these silly laws took place, or 3) something out of the county and/or beyond as some outlying counties also included these laws.

He was right, you wouldnt believe how many homes we looked at with covenants on FIVE acres, that allowed no fences to be put up, no horses, no livestock, no outbuildings without plan approval, etc. It was nuts.

We live a bit far from town now, I hate that part, 22 miles out, but I LOVE that we are in the boonies too and no rules!
