I've been searching the threads for some answers but figured I would just ask. I have 5 girls, 1 Red Rock, 1 Light Brahma, 1 Gold Wyandotte, 1 Jersey Gold and my little mille fleur d'uccle bantam. All of them were purchased at 4 weeks old and get along beautifully. Ironically my Brahma is the boss and her favorite sister in the Bantam. I am not worried about the bigger birds for the winter but am a little concerned about my mille. Can anyone share some insight on the situation. Will the bigger birds provide enough warmth for her? and am I just being an over protective worry wort?

My d'uccle do fine during our harsh Wisconsin winters, it's not so much that they keep each other warm, though they will sit close when it's colder, it's more the individual birds keep themselves warm, you should watch for any bullying as they reach sexual maturity, but d'uccle are able to fly fairly well so she should be okay. I keep both d'uccle and bantam cochins regular and frizzle, and I have kept silkies too. If your coop is fine for the large birds it's fine for your d'uccle.

Hey, this is NJ - being an overprotective worrywart is not all that bad. Provide a dry, draft free coop, lots of feed and water, and she will have no problems with a NJ winter.
