Hello, all! I have my first baby chicks, 2 RIR and 2barred rocks, who are now 5 days old. I did my homework and have a suitable brooder, starter food, heat lamp, etc, and they seem to be doing fine; they eat, drink, poop, sleep and explore their brooder. They all peck at the sides of the brooder (the bottom half of a #3 vari kennel), which is norrmal I know, but one of them does it almost constantly when she's not eating or sleeping. Is this a sign of stress of some sort, aor am I just being a "mother hen!" Any feedback would be appreciated. BTW, they have a red light, as they did at the feed store.

I'd say normal. I've had a couple of chicks like that. Usually they are focused on something specific, a speck of color, a reflection, a ray of sunlight...

Sounds like a baby chick to me, i.e., not the brightest creature in the world.
