I hatch 2 black silkies 5 days ago both doing great eating drinking and pooing lots . When they first born I put them in the brooder with just a anti slip mat and when ever I went to check on them they where alway standing up even at night today I cleaned them out again as they where pooing lots and put down wood shaving as well as the Anti slip mat and they seem to love it but have noticed they are now sleeping lots and roosting more is this normal?

That is a bit odd.. maybe they didn't like the mat, or weren't comfortable on it. Wood shavings is great bedding for chicks though. As long as they sleep and eat and drink water and is active when they are not sleeping I wouldn't worry.

Any baby animal will sleep quite a bit, so no worries there. Also the increase in roosting is actually a good thing! they're growing up and learning good habits that they will need when they are grown

And like Sumi said they might have not liked the mat by itself and did not want to lay down on it. Hope you have fun with your little chickies!
