5 dead in an hour

No snakes here (ever seen anyway been here over 10 years) lived in this neighborhood for over 35 years.

They did and do have water. There is NO way in the hot place I would come on here asking for help and suggestions if I was stupid enough to NOT water my girls.

As I said these girls are NOT just chickens, they are our pets, named, heck they even got Christmas presents from us. during the big snows, DH shoveled their coops before he did the sidewalks.

I agree that I dont think it was the heat. I would look for other enviromental factors, feed, poison, mean people, predator....

so sorry!

could something(maybe dog)chased them up and down the pen exhausting them?
i don't think it was the heat unless they were in direct sun for a period of time.

There really isnt anyone that would or could get in the yard to do this. I will of course ask the neighbor across the street if she saw anything/body here tomorrow when she is awake (we are friends)

Ok if it was poison, I would find it right? We took the yard torch flash lights to the coops immediately after getting the chickens settled inside.

The chicks I can see dying in this heat easily as they havent been out in the heat but a few days, but the older Buff Orp, I just dont get. She was lying neatly behind the ladder to the coop, in her favorite dug spot that she always lays in.

The odd thing is the 2 coops where dead chicknens were found is behind a 7 foot privacy fence (6 ft panel on top of wood) the other coop is wide out in the open.

Not unless it was one majorly agile dog jumping 5 and 7 foot fencing to get in the yard.

It is sunny where they are BUT there is tarps over them, our yard is void of trees except the ones we have planted that arent big yet.

NO struggle signs, all 4 in the one coop were lying peacefully, the one Buff Orp was lying in her usual nap spot under the ladder in her dug out spot.

Are you sure its the heat? Ours are out side all day and its really hot here there fine, it could be something in there coop, this sounds gross but do there poops look normal? Maybe its worms? IDK I am not a chicken expert I would do some research and call a vet and tell them about the situation. Also give there coops a very good cleaning, putting in new hay wood chips changing there food water and disinfecting it.

NOTHING is abnormal, Nothing has changed, nothing at all, same feed (kept inside in the house in clean buckets to keep mice or rodents from wanting in) All poo is normal looking. The ONLY thing different is we fed them watermelon.

Here is a sorta kinda coop shot, DH was painting the camper as we are converting it to a big coop to make for all of them, the privacy fence wasnt up in this shot either. But all behind the coops is 7 foot privacy fencing, the chickens cant get to the fencing. But you can sorta see their coops, tarps etc...

The amberlinks, black austrolorps and rir are in the camper. its been turned, DH built a hardware mesh screen door for it also, for more air ventilation. The plan is/was to take the smaller coops out, keep one for a broody. Make the fenced in area a run for them
