OK, lets figure out what killed our hens, I am baffled. We had 8 hens we raised from chicks this summer. All was well, they went in every night before the auto door shut. We checked EVERY night to make sure they made it in. Worked great all summer until daylight savings time hit. Right after we went in for the evening something scattered them and they went every direction. Piles of feathers 60 yards from each other. I found 1 body, head gone and breast opened up. I think this one was a separate kill cause it was so far away. 1 made it back into the coop, and door shut to keep her in. 1 came back the following morning...she must have hid well. 1 my wife seen 1 in the front yard at 9:00. Thought she was dead but wife says "she is still breathing. Brought her in and she has tail feathers gone, back of neck tore open and a large wound on breast. She is mending surprisingly well thanks to Blu-Kote. It appears there were several "fight" areas close to house for the same bird. We have all the typical predators...but have never heard coyotes. Plans are in place to install a 15 x 20, 6' chain link fence as a base and I will predator proof it. Then they will only free range when we are home and can basically watch them go to bed.
