For whatever reason, my Blue Copper Marans have never been good layers, but recently just plan awful. I have five hens that range from 1.5 years old to 2.5yrs old. I'm consistently getting one egg every other day. They have a beautiful and kind Maran roo and some these eggs are fertile because I've hatched quite a few chicks. They are eating a 22% laying feed and have access to oyster shell. I treated for worms about 2 months ago just to say it's it helped, and 8 days ago did a completely full 5 gallon permethrin dip just in case it was lice or mites. I didn't see any infestations of worms or pests on anyone. I'm about ready to give up and sell the whole flock.

It is a mystery indeed! Have they always been like this?
I am no expert, but some at that age started to slow down, but your flock of 5 and just 1 egg.....great mystery. Great thing is that they are well, healthy and beautiful, love and well cared for. ❤️

If egg production is the priority then a decorative bird isn't the best choice. Marans aren't great layers, and it's more pronounced if yours lay darker eggs. Plus assuming you're in the northern hemisphere fall is just around the corner, so some of your hens may be done for the year.
