5 months old (video + pics)

This is the "square" type tail I mentioned. Especially the main tail feathers. See how the more or less are even. A 5 month old cockerel would have grown in longer sickle feathers and have a narrower and longer tail. I wish I had some pics of my cockerels.
She is an outstanding Splash, I really love her color and pattern.

Yes! I do see what you mean! I guess I kept looking from the top view looking for even feathers which was confusing me. Doesn’t help she went through a period with missing feathers. Thanks for the visual!

And thanks for the compliments on her. I’m so happy she is a she. She is my favorite bird. I love her jerk/ silly self. :)

Oh and I think I asked you this already but I forget! What age do they generally start laying? I have the laying egg box blocked off in their coop so she doesn’t poop them all up and use it as another rooms to sleep in. When do you allow her access to them?

Mine generally start around 12-14 months old. Depending on the weather. If we get an early spring they will start earlier.

Sumatras are typically the dominant birds in a mixed flock

12-14 months old?! They’re worse than silkies lol!

Birdie is very dominant. If the other 2 silkies bump into her accidentally (they don’t see well!) she will puff up and chest bump them :smackBut now that the one silkie started crowing I’ve noticed she’s being a little more respectful towards him.
