5 New Birds to be Integrated to existing flock of 18

I would definitely put up a new roost bar, at least temporarily, as your original flock might be possessive of “their” space. A section of the run separated with cheap chicken wire & zip ties to help with see-but-no-touch for when they all have to be in the run together. Definitely add a few more feeders & waterers so the new crew doesn’t get starved out once they are fully together. Good luck!

Why are you keeping that many roosters? You really don't need them for the number of birds you have?

Mrs K
I will cull my existing "Chantecler" rooster. I got him about a year ago but was not satisfied with his colour (yellowish feathering).

After mulling I will sub divide front to back interior of coop including roosts using plastic chicken wire.
  1. can be cut with kitchen shears and stapled.
  2. flexible to cut/fit around roost and drop board area.
  3. only vertical framing every 4' required.
  4. easily removed & stored, re-usable, cheap.

@Mrs. K I don't mind you passing wisdoms. Currently thinking I will end with two cockerels - 7+ month Chanti and a 5 month Barred Rock.

The Barred Rock came from a batch of eight sexed Rock chicks and as I am focused on these two breeds as my layers I had thought to keep him to help propagate more. [Having just written that I realize crossing brother with sisters is not best.]

He is already subservient to the Chantercler roo that I will cull. Perhaps I will cull both...

Assemble dividers to section coop for integration

Yesterday:

  • I bought a roll of plastic chicken wire (grey 1/2" square format} and metal corner brackets.
  • Measured and screwed three 2" x 2" verticals in place 4' apart,
  • Cut and stapled wire to verticals.
Today:
  • Build a frame for a door panel
  • Finish install of wire including around 3 roosts/drop board
  • Heat garage and spray new Chanteclers with Permethrin
